I was fully expecting to loathe the exhaustingly titled CW reality series Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll. After watching the premiere last night, I discovered that first impressions sometimes are right! From that first cringe at PCD creator Robin Antin’s collagen-packed lips, to the naivete of “tens of thousands” of young girls who seem to really believe it when they proclaim that the Dolls are “all about female empowerment,” to the completely gratuitous vomit shots, the show made my stomach turn. Don’t get me wrong – I’m all for showcasing the talents of girls who can sing and dance and have luscious, flowing hair. But Antin and Co. – which includes a record producer I’m supposed to be amazed by and a flamboyant choreographer who really likes scarves – just made me want to channel my mom and tell these girls to put on some clothes and get thee to a reality show not judged by Lil Kim! Naturally, The Search for the Next Doll will be a big hit for The CW. Meow.
