Episode 3 of The Kill Point starts off with everyone in the bank enjoying cake and having a good time. It’s a happy little hostage situation. Ashley and her friends are trying on other people’s jewelry. Mr. Rabbit is still digging through the wall for some reason. Mr. Mouse is catching up a little sleep and having pleasant dreams until his rifle goes off.
And he shoots Cass in the face. Yeah, I suppose Cass was an “acceptable casualty” for the story. Mr. Wolf calls for EMTs and they take Cass out of there. That’s one way to get out of a hostage situation.
Some in Wolf’s crew start to rethink the whole thing and get remorseful. “We did bad shit over there and now we’re doing bad shit over here,” Mouse tells Wolf, and Wolf himself starts getting soft. But Rabbit says he’ll never surrender.
Outside the bank, Cali is pissed about the Cass shooting and thinks Wolf is starting to lose control of his men. Cali wants a full tactical SWAT breach of the bank and starts moving guys into position.
Alan Beck is again getting introspective, and starts rethinking his life. He’s being punished for all the bad stuff he’s done. So what better way to make amends for all the bad stuff than by doing more bad stuff? Wolf contacts Beck and tells him to find a weak spot in the police and finance their escape.
Wolf realizes he’s lost some cred with Cali after the Cass shooting, and he’s going to have to make up for it. Cali and Wolf meet face to face in front of the bank, and there’s an interesting exchange when Wolf asks Cali if he thinks all his shootings as a cop were justified. I suppose more on this is going to come out, like if Cali does have an itchy-trigger-finger history. Cali wants Wolf to prove that he’s still in charge by releasing two hostages, or he’s storming the bank. So Wolf releases Karen, a bank employee, and Mary Kim, Ashley’s other hot friend. The police call off the full tactical breach.
Now Rabbit starts thinking that Wolf, who is busy cleaning up blood on the floor, is getting soft and might surrender. It’s pretty much a given that Rabbit is going to cause some problems.
There’s a funny exchange between Bernard and Abe. Bernard explains how his being an old gay guy has toughened him up, and he uses anger to conquer his fear. Bernard starts needling Abe, who gets pissed and calls Bernard “one mean gay bastard.” Bernard just proved his point about anger and fear.
The SWAT sniper on the roof is full of craziness himself. He’s telling his partner about facial muscles and how he loves the look of fear on people’s faces. I suppose you have to be a little insane to be a sniper. He’s probably going to snap and have a crazy showdown with Mr. Rabbit at some point.
The police discover the body of the sniper that Beck hired in Episode 2, and it becomes clear to Cali that Beck hired him. He just needs proof. Cali brings Teddy Sabian up to the rooftop for a little interrogation, and to show Sabian he means business, Cali just takes a leak in front of him. We also learn about a “Cuban Cocktail,” which is really not something you want to ask for at a bar.
The SWAT guys stationed at the back of the bank are disappointed that the breach is called off. They want some payback. One of them suggests that they start looking to do a little breaching on their own, and repositions the SWAT guys. And it appears now that Beck’s “weak spot” is Auggie, a SWAT guy who got mixed up with the wrong people.
Faced with the possibility of a Cuban Cocktail, Teddy Sabian cracks and tells Cali that he gave frequency codes to Beck. Cali now knows Beck and Wolf have been talking to each other, and the police are able to tap into their communications — just in time to find out that one of their own guys is crooked.
Auggie clears an escape route for Wolf (did Wolf plan on maybe telling the other guys in his crew about this?), but Cali and other SWAT guys show up in time to cut off their escape. There’s a Mexican standoff and a little shootout. Auggie realizes he’s pretty much screwed and turns a gun on himself, but his buddy on the SWAT team talks him out of pulling the trigger. They slap the cuffs on Auggie. Wolf makes it safely back into the bank.
Beck is arrested, but I’m pretty sure he’ll still be pulling some strings. It’s also revealed that Cass is going to be OK. Cali’s perfect record of not losing a hostage is still intact.
Back in the bank, Wolf starts getting the shakes and starts punching stuff. He has a heart-to-heart talk with Chloe like he does at the end of every episode, and she says that she sees a different side of him. I’m starting to think that Stockholm Syndrome is getting to Chloe a bit too much, and she’s eventually going to do something to help Wolf that is not going to sit well with the other hostages.
Mr. Rabbit goes into a closet, and Mr. Pig follows him. Rabbit reveals that he’s been digging peep holes in the women’s restroom walls. He’s also been harnessing powerful energies from the severed ear of an Iraqi Republican Guard soldier he tortured. … OK, then.
Mr. Cat discovers that a laser-light spot flashing on one of the window blinds is actually Morse code, signaling “Pro Patria.” It’s a signal to the guys in the bank that Deke is out there planning something. Deke and his boys are still camped in one of the buildings nearby, and Deke says he knows a way to get Wolf’s crew out of the bank. And the episode ends.
A pretty solid episode, overall. I didn’t expect the Auggie situation. And this episode started to reveal some serious cracks in the mental stability of Wolf and his crew. I’m hoping we’ll get more action from Deke’s guys next week, and that some of the hostages will actually try to make a move. They didn’t do much in Episode 2.
Next week: Looks like Ashley gets nekkid for Mr. Pig and makes a grab at some firearms. Cali drags Wolf’s kid into the mix. Mr. Mouse is drawing creepy pictures. Some of the hostages start getting roughed up in the vault.
