One Tree Hill: The Slippery Slope Continues 2

Posted by: haro1d

For what my wife calls a filler episode, a lot of cute little things happened on this week’s episode: Peyton set up shop for her new record label and signed her first band. Lucas and Skills made the Ravens run laps until they decided to get their free throws down. Lindsay handed out lucky bamboo plants to all of Lucas’ ex-girlfriends. Mouth got fired and then got laid. Haley had a bad day, Brooke impulse-bought a house on the water — oh, and her mom finally showed up after all of these seasons away — and Nathan visited Dan Scott in prison to tell him that he’s dead to him … and then Nathan shaved!

All of this is enough to get the laughs rolling, but the big to-do in Tree Hill tonight was the appearance of the ultimate coattail surfer, Kevin Federline, as the lead singer of the band Peyton just had to sign — showing on so many levels her dubious judgment and sad taste. (The one song we heard, as lukewarm an alterna-ditty as we’ve heard on the series, had the Fed doing his best to sing like Coldplay while showing off his “tats” and doin’ that thing rappers do with their hands that makes them look like they’re giving the Italian mano cornuta.) Wow. What a performance. I have to give credit, though — he’s been working, which probably looked good in court. Federline is supposed to appear in the next two episodes … at which time I expect Peyton will tap Brooke for the money to buy out his contract.

But we still have two weeks! What could be up in these upcoming episodes? The previews from tonight show Federline’s character locking horns (there’s that mano cornuta again) with Peyton in the recording studio. If OTH is true to form, somehow, these two will get together, have sex and break up before the new album comes out. And if the writers were publicity-savvy enough, Peyton’ll be preggers — just what the new small-business owner needs.

Or, I could be wrong. Any other bright ideas?
