This week, Lost was all about games. Playing Let’s Make a Deal, Frank tells Sayid he’ll airlift him to the tanker … in exchange for Charlotte’s rescue from Locke.
Flash-forward to Sayid on a golf course attempting a 7-iron shot, when a man – Mr. Avellino – pulls up on his cart and bets him he gets closer with his 5-iron. Disappointed he isn’t the beverage cart, but just happy enough he didn’t ask to play through, Sayid takes him up on his bet. And wouldn’t you know it, the end result is a hole in one. A hole in one Mr. Avellino, that is.
Meet Future Sayid – a headhunter. Because Monster.com is so cliché in the future.
Back on the island, Faraday becomes the resident Doc Brown, minus the flying DeLorean. He conducts an experiment in which he times a “payload” getting fired from the tanker to the island. When it finally lands, he opens the payload to find the digital display being a little more than 31 minutes off from the time on the island. Doc Brown did this same thing with his dog, Einstein, and began mumbling about the space-time continuum being all screwed up because of time travel. Is it just me, or does the van that Hurley found last season look a little too much like the van the Libyans were chasing Doc Brown in? I’m just sayin’. A number of similarities here.
Meanwhile in the barracks, Sayid, Kate, and Miles begin snooping around, only to find Hurley bound and gagged in the closet. I’m classier than to make any snarky comparisons. Ungagged, Hurley squeals like a pig (I’m only so classy) and tells them Locke was stopping at Ben’s old abode before continuing on. Sayid plays Clue and finds a secret passage back at Ben’s house … in the bedroom … with his gun, he finds Ben’s secret room of passports and porn. Ok, so only one of the aforementioned “P’s.” But it’s all been a set-up, and Sayid, Kate, and Miles are cornered by Team Locke. This affords Sawyer the opportunity to convince Kate to stay on the island with him and for Sayid to barter a trade of Miles for Charlotte.
This trade is enough to get Sayid a ticket on the helicopter ride back to the tanker, alongside Frank, Desmond, and the recently deceased Naomi. Evidently corpses and those with fine beards move to the front of the line. Again, I’m classier than to make any Bee Gees references right now.
This all takes us back to the future as Sayid and his target/love interest Elsa play a game of bang and blame. Elsa’s boss is on a list of people Sayid must kill. But Elsa’s boss has targeted Sayid and his boss. Who’s Sayid’s boss? You may think Bruce Springsteen. But it turns out that Ben, the puppetmaster on the island, gets off the island in the future and is the puppetmaster still, making Sayid kill people on his “list.” What is this list? Why are these people on this list? What does Ben mean when he asks if Sayid still wants to protect his friends? And will Faraday bring Marty McFly to the island, eventually?
Questions Answered:
How did the rescuers get a picture of Ben, if he hasn’t been off the island and they haven’t been on it? This one’s easy. He has been off the island. Several times, by the looks of things. Still, if they wanted him so badly, why just snap a picture? If they wanted Ben dead, a gun is just as easy to point as a camera. And if he wanted Ben alive, nabbing him at the airport would seem to be a tad more efficient than navigating time and space to capture him on the island.
Who are the members of the Oceanic 6? Add Sayid to a roster that already included Jack, Kate and Hurley. With two spots left and one more member to be announced next week, that would seem to eliminate any couples on the island. It’s hard to imagine a flash-forward with Sun or Jin that doesn’t include the other. And the mere thought of Future Bernard without Future Rose is making us tear up just a little. We still think Sawyer ends up off the island. What clinched it was the fact that he said this week that he doesn’t want to leave the island. Yeah, and Sayid will never listen to Ben. If Lost has taught us anything, it’s to listen to what people say then assume the opposite will happen. And since Desmond foresaw it, we’ll say Claire fills the other spot.
New Questions To Be Asked:
What time is it?
Why is Sayid working for Ben?
Who is RG and why are his/her initials engraved on Naomi’s bracelet?
Was Elsa wearing the same bracelet? What’s the connection?
Who is Elsa’s boss (the economist)?
Who is (sorry, who was) Mr. Avellino?
Who are the people on Ben’s list, and why?
Why can’t Locke find Jacob’s cabin?
Who is Minkowski?
If you’ve got questions of your own, send them in and we’ll add them to the list. Check back Thursday for a preview of the next episode, “Eggtown.”
