The One Where We Crown America’s Next Top Model

Anya speaks first on this final episode of ANTM, which in seasons past has foretold who wins the whole thing.

The girls go over their individual insecurities, and then the TyraMail they’ve been waiting for arrives. The girls also get their lines for the Cover Girl Ad. So they’ve had all night to work with the lines.

Saleisha shows up at the Cover Girl commercial shoot, which psyches the girls up. While talking to Whitney, Saleisha notices that Anya is having a meltdown while getting her makeup done. It’s probably because of that sleep deprivation I heard about on NPR this morning. Seriously, Robert Siegel mispronounced Fatima’s name.

Fatima is up first and she belches out her lines. She’s got it memorized, but she sounds like a robot. Mr. Jay tells her not to give him her grocery list. Whitney is far more natural than her first attempt at a commercial. Anya was totally not confident, but she kind of pulls off the commercial.

Fatima feels like she’s far more relatable to other people. Whitney wants to be America’s Next Top Model. Anya is told that she models from her toes. None of the girls want to go home.

Whitney is up at panel first. She gets the pageant criticism again. The judges love her picture, with Miss Jay loving her neck most of all. Fatima stumbles through her commercial. Nigel thinks it was a great toothpaste ad. She also gets the ‘smile with your eyes’ note from Tyra. Anya is told that her whole commercial is a train wreck, but if you look at it in installments, she had the best commercial. Anya also gets told by Paulina that she looked dumb in her Cover Girl shoot.

We learn that the two finalists will be in a Versace show for their final runway show. The outfits were picked by Donatella Versace herself! Donatella! I want Maya Rudolph to come on out & call them all a biiiiiiiiittttttttttccccccch.

This time panel spends about half of their time talking about the strengths & struggles of each of the girls. Snoozers. We learn Nigel Barker’s going to be shooting the Seventeen cover. Anya is called first into the finals. Tyra tells us that modeling is so much more than being beautiful. Whitney is in because of what the judges think is there. Fatima is out, but she feels born again and beautiful. She promises we’ll see that face. She doesn’t say that her face will be on Iman.

Anya saw a vulnerable side to Whitney. Whitney’s got a thick skin from the mean girls back home. Both of them do their Seventeen photo shoot. Kathy’s hoping that the ANTM crew is in their bus, since taking a whole bus for two people is a bit excessive.

And we’re at the Versace runway show! Sutan reminds Whitney that she’s the first juicy booty to get this far. There’s a whole big mess of stuff going on back stage. Boys in silver paint, naked girls, Saleisha. It’s exciting!

First the judges walk the runway to their seats. Mr. Jay tells the models to stomp it to the death. Saleish is out first, then a bunch of eye candy we don’t know. Anya’s the first contestant out of the gate. She’s feeling fierce on the first pass. Whitney gives a lot of booty on her runway walk. I believe Nik from Cycle 5 or 6 got ripped for that.

On the second pass, Whitney is out first in a big pink babydoll with a train. Whitney keeps stepping on the train, but she doesn’t let it get to her. Anya can’t walk in hers because it’s so tight. Apparently the girls are only doing two looks because the show’s over. Tyra compliments them on their ‘happy’ ending of the show.

Miss Jay says Anya didn’t bring it as strong as she could have or should have. Nigel didn’t like Whitney’s first outfit and Tyra calls her on not posing at the end of the runway for photographs. Then we get the retrospective of the girls’ shots throughout the season. Whitney can do ugly pretty well. Anya takes great shots, but she doesn’t always know how to take them.

Whitney gets props from Tyra for coming alive on the runway. Paulina thinks Whitney was a ham. Nigel thought Anya would do much better on the runway. Miss Jay thinks Anya can take great pictures, but she doesn’t translate on the runway. Paulina says Whitney is the girl guys would want to have in the bedroom, but would buy the dress from Anya. They both represent strengths that America’s Next Top Model has never had.

Wow, I didn’t see this one coming. I thought Anya had it in the bag. Not from the runway show, but just because of her past performances. Instead, Whitney is America’s Next Top Model.

And that’s it until fall, kids. It’s been fun — see you next cycle. Until then, hear from the top 3 how they felt they were portrayed this season:
