Dance Moms fans, if you’re wondering what you’re going to do when Season 2 wraps up this fall, Lifetime just provided the answer. And it’s a doozy.
The network has picked up a 10-episode run of Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition, in which our favorite dance-teaching diva Abby Lee Miller will join Pussycat Dolls founder Robin Antin and dancer/choreographer Richard Jackson in choosing one of the country’s most talented young dancers to receive a $100,000 cash prize and a scholarship to the Young Dancer Program at the Joffrey Ballet School in New York.
(Yes, my fellow Chloe Lukasiak fans, I know what you’re thinking, because I’m thinking it, too.)
If you’re wondering how dance moms will fit into the new series — for Abby isn’t Abby unless she’s yelling at the mamas — they’ll serve as their children’s coaches, making decisions about training, costumes, music and choreography, while fending off the wrath of the judges and the other moms.
Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition will follow the journey of the dozen young competitors — boys and girls aged 6-13 — as they learn new routines, compete in skills tests and perform before Miller, Antin, Jackson and a live audience at the historic Los Angeles Theatre. One dancer/mom combo will be sent packing each week, until just two face off a finale showdown for the life-changing prizes.
No premiere date has been announced.
A new episode of Dance Moms premieres Tuesday night at 9/8CT. In the meantime, here’s a sneak peek at Abby Lee on the Aug. 12 episode of Lifetime’s Drop Dead Diva.
