One of the surprise hits on our Fall Preview website last year was our mention of a Nat Geo Show called The Incredible Dr. Pol. We had lots of people reading about the show and commenting on it, wondering if and when it would be back for another season.

Turns out that the show was a hit for Nat Geo Wild, as well, becoming the network’s No. 1 series. And, yes, it is back starting this Saturday, Aug. 25. Again, it follows Dr. Jan Pol (pictured left in photo), an old-school veterinarian who travels rural Michigan to care for family pets and heads of livestock — with no health insurance required. He’s a local legend in the area, and his team includes his wife, Diane, the office manager; Dr. Brenda Grettenberger, Dr. Pol’s long-time colleague; and Dr. Pol’s son Charles, who visits from Los Angeles to help with the workload and farm calls. This season, to help with the increasing patient load, Dr. Pol and Dr. Brenda seek a new vet to join the team.
This season, Dr. Pol and this team encounter more animal ailments, from a dog that really does eat homework to a rabbit with a bleeding ear, and from delivering a premature calf and treating its sick mother to identifying a mysterious illness plaguing a horse. Cameras also follow the day-to-day operations of the clinic. The clip below will give you a taste of the show if you haven’t seen it (I’ve spared you the video where Dr. Pol castrates a horse; you’re welcome).
Season 2 of The Incredible Dr. Pol airs on Nat Geo Wild Saturdays at 10pm ET/PT beginning Aug. 25.
