RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 6 Episode 5 Recap: The Snatch Game!

RuPaul Snatch Game RuPaulBefore we get to what we’re all waiting for – the Snatch Game – first we must set up some issues. Darienne thinks Milk should’ve been in the bottom because of her outfit. Psst… Darienne, maybe your bottom 3 moment was courtesy of your performance in the Rusical, not the runway ensemble. We’re also reminded of the Bianca/Laganja fight that’s pretty much just on the Laganja side and not really a fight.

Let’s give a quick rundown of who is doing whom in the Season 6 version of Snatch Game:

As Ru makes her rounds in the workroom some queens get good feedback and others get scared. Bianca Del Rio is uncharacteristically scared when she learns that Ru loves Judge Judy. BenDeLaCreme says she can’t do an English accent. Not. Buying. It.

As always some queens do well while others fall flat. Bianca Del Rio, Adore Delano and BenDeLaCreme all do well. Bianca’s Judge Judy calls out all the standards: “Beauty fades. Dumb is forever.” “Zip it.” “I’m speaking!” We even get a mini-bailiff Bird. Adore is channeling Anna Nicole Smith. Ru even mentions later that she was scarily accurate. BenDeLaCreme calls on some Downton Abbey realness, complete with pretty script answers for her Snatch Game cards.

The others are pretty milquetoast, but that could be because the other girls weren’t featured as much. There’s only so much screen time to go around – make it count! We get brief moments of Darienne (not enough food props for Paula Deen), Joslyn (funny, just not as funny as the top 3), Courtney (meh – why didn’t she do Kylie Minogue?) and Trinity (not crazy enough Nicki Minaj). Milk, Laganja and Gia all deal some clunkers. Milk is awkward. Laganja is hung up on doing what she feels is Rachel Zoe’s voice but she’s not funny. Gia tries to be funny, but at times comes off as offensive or even worse boring.

The runway theme is a night of a thousand Rus – each queen wearing an iconic RuPaul look. Most outfits can be at least casually associated with a look that RuPaul has donned at some point in her career. Milk goes with workroom Ru. In a suit. Bold choice. In her critique, she gets the ‘vulnerable’ note. We’ll see if she goes there in a future challenge.

Courtney Act, Darienne Lake, Joslyn Fox and Trinity K Bonet are all safe & sent back to start drinking. Gia gets read for not being funny. Bianca gets all praise. Adore gets read for the Ru-inspired outfit, but praise for Anna Nicole. BenDeLaCreme also gets praise for her Maggie Smith. Milk gets partial praise for her outfit choice and a partial read. The judges want to see her get glam at least once. Milk gives the whole “I need to stay true to meeeeee…” which will get her eliminated eventually because staying true to oneself translates to “I have no flexibility” in the world of reality television.

BenDeLaCreme wins the challenge, her second win. Adore and Bianca are safe. Milk also ends up safe, which of course ticks off some of the girls cause, you know, PANTS. Gia and Laganja are up for elimination. Gia looks pissed. Laganja looks pissed and like she’s going to cry. Their lipsynch is….. meh. I was really thinking Laganja would bring it, but she keeps throwing a lot of dance moves in but it doesn’t seem to go with the music to me. Use your brain & channel your drag mother Laganja. When Alyssa Edwards had to bust it out, she gave a great performance. She didn’t just do random dance moves.

Gia does a more subdued performance which NEVER works, even though she claims it’s what Ru wants. She does try a dress reveal, but it takes her awhile to actually REVEAL. So, of course, Gia is sent sashay-ing away.

I have a feeling next week will bring more Milk drama – should a drag queen never wear pants? Should a drag queen never dress up as a woman dressing up as a man? Those are the more interesting questions, and I hope RuPaul’s Drag Race at least touches on them.

While this isn’t RuPaul’s School for Girls, it’s not a docuseries either. I just love it most when it’s a little bit of both.

What do you think Racers? Is Milk taking things too far? Should Gia have gone home? Let’s talk about it below!
