RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 6 episode 7 – selling Glamazon recap

RuPauls Drag Race Season 6 episode 7 RuPaulWe’re down to 8 queens of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 6 episode 7. Let’s see, that’s an even number… Hmmm. How about working in pairs? How about RuPaul putting together the pairings so that the two queens that can’t stand each other the most are put together? Let’s do it!

RuPaul is creating the Glamazon makeup line with ColorEvolution. The queens have to create a 30 second spot to market the makeup line. The pairs are, of course:

As Bianca Del Rio wisely said in her confessional: “Ru, you shady bitch.”

The mini-challenge – putting on fake nails and molesting various fruits and vegetables – really has no bearing on anything in the competition. It’s just an opportunity for some suggestive hand work. Laganja wins, but again, who cares! She does win a little bit – she gets a bit of extra time on set when filming their 30-second spot.

The only pair where both participants really don’t want to work together is Trinity and Bianca. Trinity just wants to work by herself and Bianca is sick of Trinity’s defensiveness & excuses. The other pairings are a bit more complicated.

Adore is looking forward to working with Laganja because she figures they won’t be competing that way & will work well together. Cut to Laganja being worried about Adore overshadowing her. This won’t end well.

Joslyn is still starstruck by Courtney Act and is thrilled to be working with her. Courtney just can’t stop herself from declaring that she’s the prettiest at almost every suggestion Joslyn puts forward. Play nice Courtney, you’re disappointing a fan.

And then there’s Darienne & BenDeLaCreme. Darienne is furious, but Ben thinks Darienne is talented, she just doesn’t understand why there’s tension between them.

Of course, even the sort-of happy groups end up tense with each other in about 5 minutes. I think Adore’s look sums it up best.

As Ru checks in with the teams they try to put their best foot forward in front of him. Darienne is obviously uncomfortable & Ben’s a bit clueless as to what’s going on. Darienne says they’re opposites. Ben says he doesn’t think they’re opposites. Darienne says they just have different working styles. It’s pretty awkward.

Ru then turns to Trinity & Bianca and essentially says the same damn thing we’ve all been saying to Trinity – you’re great in the lip synch, so turn that energy in to the other challenges. That’s when Bianca chimes in & they essentially double-team Trinity to get her to do well. During their shoot Bianca is the number one Trinity cheerleader on the sidelines. By the time they’re getting ready for the runway, Trinity seems to have really relaxed and let her guard down, at least with Bianca. The growth in Trinity is great, I just wonder how she does WITHOUT having a cheering section behind her. She’s got to be able to do it for herself.

Bianca and Trinity in their commercial

The runway theme is black & white, so of course Ru is in a full rainbow dress. Shady bitch. But Bianca and Trinity both look stunning in their gowns.

Bianca and Trinity on the runway
This is menswear, according to Joslyn on RuPaul’s Drag Race

This week’s guest judges are Leah Remini (BFF of Michelle Visage) and Lainie Kazan.

The runway looks are super sassy and elegant. Although Joslyn Fox has a very interesting view of what counts as menswear. Bare ass & strings! Also, BenDeLaCreme’s hair looked like a penis wrapped in a bandage. Thank you Lainie Kazan. After stomping the runway we get to see the girls’ commercials.

Some of these commercials make an attempt to actually sell the cosmetics. Others are not much more than 30-seconds skits, some of which are funny.

Adore and Laganja were the most successful at the challenge, so I was wrong that their pairing would not go well. To Laganja’s credit she seemed to understand that if Adore’s got a better idea, go with Adore’s idea. Smart move. The script was funny, they focused on the product and they had the best line. “Whoever said beauty was on the inside is ugly.”

Mean Girls Adore Delano and Laganja Estranga in their winning commercial

Bianca and Trinity had an ok commercial but get read for not having a big enough before & after. Courtney and Joslyn also have an ok commercial. Courtney thinks they nailed it, but in the end it’s just sort of meh. BenDeLaCreme and Darienne have a crazed Jennifer Coolidge look that talks more about surgery than about the makeup. I think we can see where this is going.

BenDeLaCreme & Darienne in their losing commercial

Adore Delano and Laganja Estranja are this week’s winners, Laganja to Michelle’s surprise.  There’s some shade on the runway! The team of BenDeLaCreme and Darienne Lake are in the bottom. They’re taking us to The Point of No Return and BenDeLaCreme, who just got the ‘who are you’ critique does a strip tease ending with a black bustier number under her dress. But shantay DARIENNE stays?! WHA!?!?!

But wait, by the power vested in Ru, by Ru, BenDeLaCreme is also safe. Well thank the sweet Lord above for that. I mean yes Trinity did way better this week and Darienne wasn’t awful to Ben but there’s no way BenDeLaCreme should’ve gone home before Laganja, Darienne or Trinity.

So after episode 1 of this 2-episode night, we still have 8 queens remaining. Will we have a 2 queen elimination night sometime soon? Only RuPaul knows and she ain’t telling.

What did y’all think? Should both team members have won the challenge? Should BenDeLaCreme have been saved?
