After presenting her latest heartwarming holiday film and sharing the season with her friends and family (check out her adorable family tradition below), we’ll next see Candace in the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries movie A Bone to Pick: An Aurora Teagarden Mystery. The film is the first in a series based on the beloved series from best-selling author Charliane Harris. (Candace and I had a great chat about the mystery series which I can’t wait to share closer to the film’s Jan. 11 premiere!) Also during our chat, the charming actress answered our 7 Questions.
1. You’re at a magazine rack and can only pick three titles. Which ones do you choose?
Lucky magazine, I’ve had a subscription to it since its first issue. People magazine … and Shape magazine, because I like fitness magazines.
2. If your TV carried just three shows or networks, what would they be?
Hallmark Channel, Parenthood and Scandal
3. What three things do you have to have in your fridge or pantry?
Eggs, blueberries and I need some Cholula hotsauce
4. What has been your strangest fan encounter?
When I was younger, I would have cases of Asthma whenever I was sick. So one time I was sick, and I was using my inhaler, and this girl came up to me. She was sooo excited — beyond excited — she was like “Oh my gosh, I use an inhaler too.” We were relating over an inhaler. But I’d never seen a girl happier to know there was a celebrity using an inhaler.
5. Tell us about a time when you were star struck.
I will never forget first time I met Jennifer Lopez; I had never felt what it was like to be a fan before. I was at American Idol and I was brought over to her dressing room with my daughter, because she’s wanted to meet her. Of course, I wanted to meet Jennifer Lopez too, but the whole point was for my daughter. And when JLo walked out, I felt like I turned into a 12 year-old. I didn’t know what to say to her, I clammed up and had the most awkward look on my face. I froze for 30 seconds and I tried to play it cool in front of my daughter, but inside I was freaking out. And when my daughter got back into the car after we spent a little time talking to Jennifer, we screamed. We screamed and kicked our arms and legs in the air and yelled, “Oh my gosh!! We just met JLo!”
6. What’s a movie you can watch over and over again?
Grease and The Wizard of Oz
7. If you could have a talent that you don’t already possess, what would it be?
I would love a singing voice, I wish I could sing.
BONUS: Since you’re starring in your 5th holiday film, which is a tradition in itself, what is your favorite holiday tradition?
I love buying our Christmas tree as a family; that’s my favorite thing to do. There’s a place near our house — a lot that gets put up every year — that we go to. We drive there in our pickup truck, with our dog in the back, and Christmas music is blaring in the car by the time we get there.
It’s just fun to walk around as a family, and collectively — all five of us — pick out which is the perfect tree. It’s always an event and as a mom, it’s a special time. We’ll put our Santa hats on, or headbands with Reindeer antlers on them and sometimes we’ll put on our ugly Christmas sweaters and we go find our Christmas tree. I’m a big goofball when it comes to that stuff. And I love it.
