Jackie Peyton “Nurse Jackie” is getting her final shot to get sober and clean up her life. I know. We’ve heard that before, right?! Well this time it is for good, as the final 12-episodes of the Emmy-winning series are set to begin on Sunday, April 12 at 9pmET/PT on Showtime. Star Edie Falco and creator Clyde Phillips were at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour to talk about the Nurse Jackie series finale.

“I am very, very pleased,” Falco said of the final script. “I thought it was sort of exquisite. We had great writers who were very true to the character, and the other characters, and the storyline — about what the whole show was about.”
The final season is filled with unrelenting consequences for Jackie. She’s stripped of everything and is at the lowest point of her life — arrested, abandoned by her colleagues and family, her nursing license revoked. This is her fight to reclaim her sobriety, her job, her people, her children and her identity.
“I think we come to realize she has to be a nurse and that’s almost as strong of an addiction as her other one,” Falco said. “She will go to any length to see that happen.”
These final 12 episodes could be the road to redemption, but we know that’s not going to come easy. Phillips said he originally started off knowing how they were going to end the series and then changed it completely. The original plan was to burn down the hospital, so now that we know that’s isn’t going to be happening, get ready to strap in for what’s sure to be a turbulent 12-episode ride. The final episodes of Nurse Jackie return to Showtime beginning Sunday, April 12 at 8pm.
