In Bosch, detective Harry Bosch investigates the homicide of a thirteen year-old boy while standing trial himself, accused of murdering a suspected serial killer in cold blood. The investigation into the boy’s death takes on an added urgency when a killer who has confessed to a boy’s murder escapes from police custody and begins a murderous rampage across Los Angeles. As the twosome are engaged in a furious cat and mouse game, the hunt turns personal.
Bosch stars Titus Welliver (Sons of Anarchy, Argo) as Harry Bosch, Jamie Hector (The Wire) as Jerry Edgar, Amy Aquino (Being Human) as Lt. Grace Billets, Lance Reddick (Fringe, The Wire) as Deputy Chief Irvin Irving, and Annie Wersching (24, Extant) as Julia Brasher, with Sarah Clarke (24) as Eleanor Wish and Jason Gedrick (Luck) as Raynard Waits.
In one of the episodes Bosch’s lady love (and a fellow cop), reveals that surprisingly, the eyes of a great white shark are blue. And a shark is a perfect description of Welliver’s Bosch; his liquid blue eves belie what lies behind them. He’s placid until provoked. And even when he’s sitting still, he’s always in motion, even if it’s only internally. Welliver’s deep, growly voice lends itself perfectly to the series’ old-school feel and the actor handles the film-noir role with the ease of Bogart.
The series is a bold step for Amazon, as Bosch is the network’s first hour-long drama. But stepping outside of the norm has proven well for Amazon; its first scripted comedy, Transparent became a critical darling, and earned Golden Globes for both the series and its star, Jeffrey Tambor.
Michael Connolly has written 17 books starring Harry Bosch. The latest, The Burning Room debuted in the number one spot on the New York Times Best Seller list. The character has also made appearances in several Connolly short stories and Connolly’s Micky Haller series.
The 10 episode series gets its primary inspiration form Connolly’s books City of Bones (2002) The Concrete Blonde (1994) and Echo Park (2006) and was produced with extensive input from Connelly.
