RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 7 episode 6 recap – What happened to Merle?

Shady, shady, shady is how RuPaul’s Drag Race season 7 episode 6 begins. Kandy Ho has decided that she’s the old lady slayer so Ru must want her to be shadier. Huh? Bye Mrs. Kasha Davis – I still miss your mug.

Meanwhile Max doesn’t want all the naughty words. The other girls are talking about sex & Max finds it vulgar. Don’t know if we’ll ever get an explanation for her modesty, not that we really need it. The show just seems to be focusing a lot on it. Maybe just because she’s different from the other queens in that way.

This week’s mini-challenge starts off confusing – there’s something about numbers and crotches of the expanded Pit Crew. Each crew member has a number in his pants. The goal for each contestant to get the highest number without getting a monster. Ginger Minj is the only girl that didn’t get a monster so she wins.

The mainstage challenge is – wait for it – ANOTHER group acting challenge! Hoo-ray? Groups of three are acting in a scene where one is RuPaul, one is Michelle Visage & the third girl is former judge Merle Ginsburg. As the mini-challenge winner, Ginger gets to pick her team first and assemble the 2 other teams.

Team 1 (from Merle’s perspective): Ginger Minj, Katya and Kennedy Davenport
Team 2 (from Michelle’s perspective): Max, Violet and Kandy Ho
Team 3 (from Ru’s perspective): Miss Fame, Pearl and Jaidynn

The #RuHollywoodStories is the story of whatever happened to Merle? Why isn’t she a judge on Drag Race anymore? Each skit is from a different person’s perspective.

In Violet’s confession, she admits she’s kind of over these group acting challenges. Me too Violet! Me too!

This week’s Katya-gram: Ginger is  gonna be the evil villain which is perfect because she’s playing it like Ginger Minj as Danny DeVito as Tony Soprano as The Fonz as Michelle Visage.

The filming of the skits goes as expected – at least 1 person per group has some kind of meltdown. Another person in the group is thinking “just get over it!” Miss Fame can’t stop talking, and I would bet that she’s actually talking to producers off camera. Won’t know for sure until someone spills some tea.

The runway is “Death Becomes Her” where each drag queen has to be a drag version of her death. Will she be stabbed? Burned?

We learn that Jaidynn hasn’t come out to her family yet. She loves her family but she gets messages like “I can’t wait for you to meet your wife.” from her mother. Eesch. Hopefully she’s had that conversation by now & it went well for her.

With the main challenge, of course Merle Ginsburg is one of the guest judges. Also Ariana Grande joins the judging panel. I wonder if anyone had to carry her like a baby around the set.

So how these drag queens died: Katya was eaten by a shark. Ginger was eaten by a bear. Who knows how Kennedy died. Max cut out her own heart. She also hasn’t moved away from the gray wigs. Kandy Ho is a vampire. Miss Fame is stabbed through the head. Pearl has multiple broken bones (she should’ve borrowed Max’s crutches). Jaidynn was in jail & tried to escape, but she didn’t make it. She’s probably one of the best deaths, although the judges aren’t into it. Violet is pretty with a tiny waist, but I have no idea how she died. I want backstory, dammit!

Ginger Minj’s video is the winner and YAY Katya finally wins a challenge. She wins some fabric. Hopefully she wanted it, or she can make good money off eBay for it.

Kandy Ho gets pretty bad feedback, including that her beard is back (which it is). Max gets the gray hair critique. Pearl got good feedback. Jaidynn doesn’t get great feedback. In the end Max, Pearl, Violet and Fame. Kandy Ho and Jaidynn are up for elimination. Hopefully Miss Fame will start being in the moment otherwise she might be gone soon.

Of course the girls are lip synching to Ariana Grande’s Break Free. Kandy is confident, which has been the kiss of death this season. It’s the most high energy lip synch thus far this season. By all rights, Kandy Ho should be going home as this has been her third time around these bases. Both performances are good though, so it could go either way.

Jaidynn Diore Fierce finally gets the girls to break free from the spell of Kandy Ho. She’s a talented queen, but it was maybe a week or two too long.

But let’s not dwell – next week is SNATCH GAME! Hooray! Looks like Fame & Violet are fighting over who gets to be Donatella Versache. What other drama will next week bring? Let’s speculate below!
