RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 7 episode 11 recap: Hello Kitty!

RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 7 episode 11 begins with Trixie’s second mirror message to the girls. Ginger is sorry she sent Trixie home, but she’s happy she’s still here. It really wouldn’t have been fair for Trixie to have gone much further. Ginger wants to see Violet lip synch. Violet is happy to see Ginger crack.

We finally get a mention of Katya’s Russian character. That better not mean that she’s sashaying away.

It’s time for the puppet mini-challenge! Katya gets Ginger, Ginger gets Violet, Pearl gets Kennedy, Kennedy gets Pearl and Violet gets Katya.

Ginger’s Violet that looks like a puppet Michelle Visage wins the mini-challenge by a landslide. She gets a small head start on the mainstage challenge. (Is it just me, or was this puppet challenge a little weak? Especially after seeing the season 6 puppet challenge just an hour or so before watching tonight’s episode. I miss the workroom shade.)

That mainstage challenge is to make a Hello Kitty ball dress made out of Hello Kitty crap. It’s the Project Runway unconventional challenge Drag Race style.  As Christian Siriano would say, they have to make shit out of Hello Kitty. Ginger’s over the sewing challenges. Gurl. You haven’t even gotten a sewing challenge like other seasons have gotten a sewing challenge.

Violet is excited about the challenge. She’s pretty much the only one. Katya is freaking out. Kennedy is freaking out. Ginger is freaking out. Pearl is Pearl.

Santino Rice is back as this week’s guest judge. Violet appears to be very excited about that & asks if they can go to Red Lobster. (Andre! Where’s Andre?) There’s an implication of sex eyes. Ginger is definitely excited about Santino as well. Various Ru tour around the workroom head games ensue.

Violet looks like The Human Gaydar, bitch. What the hell. – Kennedy

Are the queens doing a ball challenge with only one outfit? Um, no. The twist this week is that the queens have to create a character that Hello Kitty would call her BFF. So now there’s a second look they have to create, and they all get to wear the same oversized Hello Kitty-style head that they can’t see out of. With no ears or other features, they all look like Baymax from Big Hero 6. As Violet said: “It’s really impossible to try to serve face in this head.”

In the montage of the queens working in the workroom. Katya  freaking out and Violet being confident, we learn that Pearl has been drawing the Pearl character since he was 10. This makes me wonder if Pearl is in the top 3.

Runway time! Hello Kitty gets to walk the runway first, after the obligatory silly Japanese talk among the judges, which also includes Rebecca Romijn. Violet’s character likes to be called Lavender Trinket. Ginger’s is The Country Cow. Pearl is Banjee Beatdown. Katya is Hello Katya. Kennedy is Sweet Hips. Sweet Hips?

After the Hello Kitty characters walk the runway, the queens show their Hello Kitty Couture. Violet is clearly the strongest of the group, although I’m not sure why Michelle Visage says Violet’s look is so different from her previous looks. Number one – it should be because it’s made out of Hello Kitty crap. Number 2 – she’s still cinched for the Gods, which we’ve seen before.

There’s another RuPaul’s Drag Race first – you have no idea! It’s a bug death – a horsefly  landed on Ginger Minj & Violet killed it for her. Sorry ASPCA!

Pearl is safe. Violet wins the challenge, unsurprisingly. She wins a whole bunch of Hello Kitty crap. Any of it up on eBay yet? Ginger is safe. Kennedy, who says she’s not creative, and Katya, who lacks confidence, are up for elimination.

Kennedy vs Katya – this is going to be epic. They’re lip synching to Katy Perry’s Roar. Kennedy is going a bit crazy – she does a split off the stage onto the floor in front of the stage. Katya does a cartwheel into the splits on the stage. Violet goes crazy for it from the back row. The lip synch is a tough call – sometimes the girl that goes crazy goes home, sometimes she stays.

In the end, Kennedy is safe, even though she came off the stage during her lip sync, which I thought was technically against the rules. Katya is sent sashaying away. Boooo!

Who did you think should go home this week? The correct answer was not Katya, for those of you playing the home game. Let the mourning commence…
