RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 7 Finale recap

RuPauls Drag Race Tempest season 7 finaleThe RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 7 Finale begins with a re-introduction of all the queens. It’s nice that each queen gets to walk the catwalk – and they all look great.

When Ru herself is introduced, she even lipsynchs a little bit to her song The Realness. She talked a little bit about possibly touring on her podcast, What’s the T. Maybe this is a sample?

After the introductions, we learn that the top 3 queens have all been asked to prepare yet another lipsynch to help Ru make her decision. Songs have been created especially for this performance. First up is Ginger Minj. She performs to There Ain’t No Way to Pray the Gay Away or whatever it’s called, which I have a feeling is inspired from her musical Crossdresser for Christ. Each judge gets to say something nice about her before we go to a clip package about Ginger. Then we get messages from Ginger’s supporters.

Of COURSE we get a video from her dad and they both cry. Ru then asks the ‘how does that make you feel’ question. Not so different, Miss Ru. I did have an idea that you would do that during the finale. Ginger seems to do well with it. Hopefully she enjoyed the experience.

Pearl’s song is all about being a sleepwalker and it feels like it’s about half as long as Ginger’s performance. Doesn’t sound anything like her new album Pleasure. Now I’d really be surprised if Pearl won.

She does get an extra clip montage where The Curse of Pearl is discussed. For those that don’t know, the conspiracy is that the queens that cross Pearl are the next ones to go. In Pearl’s family & friends package video it’s mostly friends and other queens giving love. Pearl’s mom gives some love but the music is way more dramatic than the message is.

Last but not least to perform is Violet Chachki. Her song is Too Many Daddies & Not Enough Time. At least that’s what I’m calling it. Also, not off her soon-to-drop album, but you never know. She could add it.  She’s very Dita Von Teese/Bettie Page. Very that, including a strip tease. It’s too bad she didn’t get to perform with silks. Her clip package mentions the fact that she can come off as bitchy. It’s an interesting inclusion, although maybe they wanted to just acknowledge it & move on. Like, “congrats for making it to the finals! I hear you’re kind of a bitch….” Her friends & family package is very non-emotional – no getting Violet to cry this season Ru! Unless maybe she wins…

Other queens get surprises too as we go down memory lane with the queens in elimination order. The first group are Tempest, Sasha, Jasmine and Mrs. Kasha Davis. Jasmine Masters mentioned that Patti LaBelle was her inspiration. Up pops Patti LaBelle on the screen. Ru mentions that she felt that Jasmine needed to be lifted up after what she went through on social media. Kindness is the new cool, kids! It’s a good point but it does sounds a little like Mom trying to be cool. Maybe that’s the point. But fer crying out loud, be nice to the queens you don’t like. Racial slurs are not cool. Sheesh.

Next up are Kandy Ho, Max, Jaidynn and Miss Fame. Other revelations from the cast include that Kandy Ho actually lived in Connecticut until she was 10. Not as Puerto Rican as we thought. Jaidynn also gets a message from her mom. Mom loves Jaidynn for who she is so she’s out now. Again, figured that would happen during the reunion. It seems like the queen in the 3rd seat gets some sort of extra mention. Ru asks Miss Fame to speak chicken. Instead she brings a Phyllis Diller chicken on stage. That’s it. She doesn’t talk to the chicken, and the chicken doesn’t poop on her. I hope the chicken liked it.

The final group of queens are Trixie, Katya and Kennedy. Trixie cries talking to Ru. Katya is Katya and it’s awesome. She told Ru she wanted to tackle her, stuff her wig into her mouth & have Ru pee on her. Awesome. The balcony is going wild for her. Ru tells everyone to go see Kennedy live. Trust.

We get questions from viewers as read by drag queens like Delta Work, Latrice, Alaska and Gia.

To award Miss Congeniality we get Ben De La Creme who is in the Ginger Minj/Sasha Belle conjoined twins outfit with Michelle Visage. And the winner is… Katya! YAAAYY!! She gets a gold version of the Ru statue (I wonder if she gets to keep it) and a walk down the runway. And cash. Cash is good.

For the crowning, we get Bianca Del Rio. If you thought she was silver before, she’s all silver realness now as a living statue. We do the usual long, slow drawn out “Who will be the next drag superstar.”

Then Ru coughs. And asks for Katya. The audience FREAKS OUT, as does Katya. It’s awesome.

And the winner is Violet Chachki! Whoo hoo! Although Ginger would’ve made a great winner as well. Hopefully all of the queens will capitalize on this exposure & come to Milwaukee where I can see them without having to pay for a hotel room.

What did you think of this season of RuPaul’s Drag Race? Were you Team Violet or did you want Ginger or Pearl to win? Let’s have one last kiki kids!
