The entire staff gathered together and argued out the merits of this season’s new broadcast series to compile our top 10 best fall TV shows of 2015 (we held off on midseason, as our list would have been far too long).
The Grinder (FOX)
The Grinder never settles! Rob Lowe and Fred Savage have great chemistry as brothers with polar-opposite personalities. Savage plays a small-time Boise lawyer, while Lowe plays a high-octane, big-time attorney … on TV.
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (The CW)
Who wouldn’t give up life in NYC for hip West Covina, Calif.?!? Series creator and star Rachel Bloom’s fantastically irreverent point of view (and awesome production numbers!) has created the perfect fantasy laden lead-in for CW’s hit Jane the Virgin.
Dr. Ken (ABC)
If you loved Ken Jeong as Mr. Chow, Señor Chang or any of his countless guest roles, Jeong proves he can carry his own series as a tough love doctor and family man in ABC’s new sitcom.
Limitless (CBS)
Bradley Cooper recurs in the role he played in 2011’s Limitless feature film, but he isn’t the main attraction here. Jake McDorman is engrossing as Brian Finch, who discovers the brain-boosting power of a mysterious drug called NZT. Based on the first episode, we’re already addicted to the rush this series delivers.
Blindspot (NBC)
Jaimie Alexander’s willingness to strip herself physically and emotionally bare to shattering effect gives us high hopes for this Greg Berlanti-produced thriller about a woman found covered in tattoos but stripped of her memory who appears to be a walking, talking message to the FBI.
Scream Queens (FOX)
Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk are TV’s dynamic duo, scoring big with FOX’s high-school musical dramedy Glee and the what-the-what! trippy shockfest that is the American Horror Story anthology on FX. Now they’re blending both genres in this campy, collegiate murder mystery that heralds the return of Jamie Lee Curtis to television and to the horror genre that made her famous.
Angel From Hell (CBS)
Jane Lynch is funny as hell playing a heavenly being (or a human lunatic?) with a PG-13 personality.
Best Time Ever With Neil Patrick Harris (NBC)
This one’s making the list sight unseen. We love Neil Patrick Harris so he makes our list by default, but after talking to him and hearing what he has planned, it sounds like a rocking good time.
Grandfathered (FOX)
We’d take Uncle Jesse from Full House as our grandpa any day! John Stamos goes from smarm to charm when he learns he’s a dad and a granddad all at once.
Supergirl (CBS)
This terrific addition to the DC Comics television universe comes from coproducer Greg Berlanti (The Flash, Arrow). It’s fun for everyone, but it especially presents a female hero that women and girls can look up to without worrying about her being sexualized onscreen.
