An unlikely romance collides with espionage in BBC America’s “London Spy”

On Thursday, Jan. 21, at 10pm ET/PT, BBC America premieres the new five-part mystery series London Spy, from author Tom Rob Smith. In this series, brilliant investment banker Alex (Edward Holcroft) has an unlikely romance with hard-partying, youthful bon vivant Danny (Ben Whishaw). Just as their relationship deepens, Alex is found dead under suspicious circumstances, and his real identity is uncovered to be that of a code-breaking spy working for MI6. With a desire to find out the truth about Alex’s identity and his death, Danny begins following the trail into the dark world of espionage. In over his head, Danny is mentored by Scottie (Jim Broadbent) as he enters a world where no one is who they seem — including Frances (Charlotte Rampling), a mysterious figure from Alex’s life.
