As part of its celebration of Black History Month, Disney will premiere a new installment of its interstitial series, “Be Inspired,” featuring actor Cameron Boyce and his personal connection to “The Clinton 12” — the twelve African-American teens who were the first to integrate a southern public school in 1956. Boyce’s grandmother, Jo Ann, was one of the dozen brave students who fought for their right to a local and integrated education.

In the inspiring featurette, Disney’s “Be Inspired” cameras follow as Cameron, his sister, parents and grandmother make their first visit together to the monument, its 12 life-size sculptures of the students and the Green McAdoo Cultural Center in Clinton, Tennessee.

Boyce shares, “My Nana is part of ‘The Clinton 12’; I’ve always known she is incredible and now, everyone else will know too.” The 3-minutes special reminds all children that everyday Americans were also a part of the Civil Rights Movement, and that everyone can have an impact in his or her world. The “Be Inspired” segments are intended for kids age 6-14 and their families, and I’m of the opinion that this segment in particular should be required viewing. My boys, ages 6 and 8, will be watching this tonight.

You can watch the featurette here:

Boyce stars in the Disney XD series Gamer’s Guide to Pretty Much Everything and in Disney Channel’s hit movie Descendants. The actor also starred in the Disney Channel hit, Jessie.

The “Be Inspired” interstitial will premiere February 1 just prior to an episode of Gravity Falls (8:00-8:30pm ET) on Disney XD and during an episode of K.C. Undercover (8:00-8:30 p.m. ET) on Disney Channel.
