SundanceTV has released the stunning trailer for the crime-series The Last Panthers, set to the David Bowie song, “Blackstar.” Bowie was inspired to write the song — the first single & title track off of his last album — after screening a cut of The Last Panthers. The eerie song also serves as the series’ theme song. The six-episode series has already premiered in the U.K. to rave reviews, and will premiere on Sundance TV on April 13.
A daring diamond heist with all of the hallmarks of the famous “Pink Panthers” gang turns deadly when an innocent child is killed. Although the purloined stones are tainted and considered worthless on the black market, for a British insurance adjuster (Morton), a French cop (Rahim) and a Serbian diamond thief (Bogdan), the crime sets in motion a desperate cat-and-mouse game throughout the European continent. And the closer each gets to his or her payday, the deeper each falls into a dangerous and interconnected world.
Johan Renck, who directed all six episodes of The Last Panthers, also directed Bowie’s strange and hypnotic music video for “Blackstar.”
