This is the last episode before the big finale, Blindspotters! And oh, baby… it was a good one. It also had babies!
“If Love a Rebel, Death Will Render” kicks off with Jane (Jaimie Alexander) yelling at Oscar (Francois Arnaud) about Mayfair (Marianne Jean-Baptiste) going to jail. He says she deserves it. Jane doesn’t seem to agree, but Sofia (Sarita Choudhury) steps out of the darkness to convince her. She does that by mentioning Daylight.

Apparently, Jane recruited Sofia back in the day, in order to right the wrong that was Daylight. Oscar says the whole thing with Mayfair is just scratching the surface, though. In other words, there’s plenty more for Season 2, people!
The action then jumps to two weeks later. A man is running through the streets with a duffle bag. However, there isn’t a bomb inside. It’s a baby — which has the exact same tattoo as Jane.
At the FBI, Zapata (Audrey Esparza) and Reade (Rob Brown) are talking about Mayfair’s case. He tells her about the creepy guy that scared him off the Carter case. She tells him about Weitz.
Weller (Sullivan Stapleton) brings Mayfair home, where she is serving house arrest. He tries to convince her to come clean about Daylight. However, Mayfair doesn’t want to see all of those guilty convictions overturned. She convinces him that there has to be another way. It doesn’t seem like she knows what that way is just yet, though.
Back at the office, FBI Director Pellington (Dylan Baker) visits. He’s checking in on Weller, who is taking over for Mayfair in the interim. He isn’t there to tell Weller that he’s doing a bang-up job or even how guilty Mayfair is looking right now. Instead, he wants to let Weller know that the FBI is planning to shut down the Jane Doe project.
Meanwhile, Mayfair is using some of her free time to go through the mail that she’s missed. In the pile is an envelope from her old buddy. It turns out that he was able to get that fuzzy photo enhanced — you know, the one from the night Carter was murdered. No shocker that the guy behind the wheel is Oscar. She then realizes that the whole thing with Alex was a set up and Sofia is involved with Oscar somehow. Mayfair then busts out of her ankle bracelet, grabs some cash and a gun, and leaves her home.
Of course, the Mayfair thing will have to wait. We still have the baby to deal with. Patterson (Ashley Johnson) tells Weller, Reade and Zapata about the baby with the tattoo. Jane walks in and the crew soon realizes that the baby has a lot more in common with her than just similar ink. She has no name, no identity and, of course, a duffel bag. Zapata says that the guy who dropped the baby off is Edward Donella, a former nurse.
The FBI tracks Edward to a public place. When they close in on him, a sniper takes Edward out. Jane then notices that he has an insignia just like the tattoo.
DNA tests show that the baby belongs to Peter Warren, the son of a former presidential candidate. However, when the FBI team goes to check him out, he tells his wife Tracy that he has no connection. He says his only child is upstairs, and when the crew peeks in, they see a child laid up with Leukemia in a hospital-style bed.
Pellington doesn’t seem too pleased about what the team is up to. He says that the crew is to leave the Warren family alone. He also wants Jane Doe out of the FBI. She isn’t happy. Weller isn’t either, but claims that it’s temporary.
Patterson says that Tracy Warren is the mother of the baby, but there are no records of the birth — and the woman may have set a record for getting her pre-baby body back. She also mentions the sick child, and how he’s in need of a bone-marrow transplant from a genetic match. Maybe the baby?
Instead of taking the afternoon off, Jane heads over to CPS, where she witnesses a woman walk through security. The distraction allows two guys to sneak into the building. She follows them into an elevator and disarms both men (quite easily, too!). While she’s finishing them off, she spots the woman from downstairs killing anyone that comes between her and that baby. A second later, the woman is gone.
As Zapata, Reade and Weller review what just happened over at CPS, Tracy shows up with an offer to help. She explains that she and her husband gave genetic samples to some experimental medical program that’s backed by her famous father-in-law. The couple hoped it would lead to something that could help their son. She thought the program was growing bone marrow and other types of tissue, but it looks like they are using the samples to make infants!
Jane Doe actually gets to the lab first, where she finds multiple babies. She uses the barcode on her arm to get into the room. What was she planning to do? It doesn’t matter, because she’s cut off by the woman from CPS and the elder Warren, who is claiming some sort of medical breakthrough.
A few seconds later, the FBI arrives and they don’t get a very warm welcome. Instead, a gunfight breaks out. The woman inside goes for her gun, but Jane tackles her. The two fight, but Jane puts her down with a defibrillator.
Weller finds Jane unconscious and revives her. Zapata and Reade easily get Warren. The babies are saved!
Back at the FBI, Weller defends his actions to Pellington. As a reward/punishment, he gets Mayfair’s job. After that, we see Jane saying goodbye to the FBI. Since they no longer work together, Weller assumes it’s prime smooching time.
That kiss, the promotion, the babies and Mayfair’s rogue behavior — none are the main highlights of this episode. At the very end, two key things happen. First, Jane goes to meet Oscar and finds Mayfair. The two have it out. Oscar then walks in and shoots Mayfair. Jane yells at Oscar to leave and tries to stop Mayfair’s bleeding. Mayfair says she wishes she would be around to see Weller find out who Jane really is. Then, Mayfair dies!
Next, we see Bill Weller (Jay O. Sanders) on his deathbed. He’s rambling a bit, but manages to admit that he did kill Taylor Shaw back in the day. “She’s under the fort, Kurt,” he says. Then he dies, too!
Wow wee! This episode seemed pretty average, but they really knocked it out of the park at the end. After going back and forth with the whole Jane/Taylor thing all season, it seems that Jane Doe is really just … Jane Doe. Also, Mayfair won’t get some happy ending after all. So is Jane Doe’s work done? Apparently, Oscar hinted to more. Still, this was a lot for one episode. And this isn’t even the season finale? I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what they’re saving for next week.
