TLC Showcases Child Collectors On My Kid’s Obsession

Any parent can tell you that children form unusual fixations throughout childhood, and can be of the opinion “If one if good, then a hundred is better.” My boys are obsessed with their “normal-seeming” collections of Legos and Halo mini-figures, but one of my boys had an intense obsession with mustaches way before they were hipster-vogue, while the other one went through a Caillou stage that still makes me shudder. But the precocious kids on TLC’s My Kid’s Obsession take collecting and coveting to the extreme.

In the one-hour special airing Dec. 28, viewers will meet five kids who’ll show off their extreme and usual collections. And these kids aren’t collecting stamps or coins, the offbeat curiosities include an astounding set of vacuum cleaners, an intrusion of cockroaches that numbers in the thousands (I looked it up, and it’s an apt description), an assortment of fans that will blow you away, and a brother/sister team’s collection of fishing lures that hopes to snag (*fishing term) a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Take a Sneak Peek of My Kid’s Obsession

Meet the Kids

I have seen Logan interviewed on another TV program, and he’s no mere collector. He’s an expert and possesses an encyclopedic knowledge of vacuums. He’s even able to identify certain models by their engine sounds alone! What amazes me is that these families have the space to store these impressive, but awkwardly-sized collections — my lone Dyson takes up a fair amount of closet space. I can’t imagine the storage requirements of a hundred vacuum cleaners!

For now, TLC is presenting this as a one-off special, but I’m sure if they can find more kids with fantastic fixations — who knows? — this may become a regular series! What usual items do you or your children collect? Sound off below!
