VOD Spotlight: Fifty Shades Darker

The tale of Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) and Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) gets darker in Fifty Shades Darker, the sequel to Fifty Shades of Grey. As the two rekindle a romance that looked dead, Anastasia is stronger than ever before. But when confronted with Christian’s past, can she deal with the anger and envy of the women who came before her?

For fans of the movies, here’s some trivia about 50 Shades Darker you may not have known:

• Ana’s (Dakota Johnson’s) line “I expect you to call me Ana. I don’t expect you to fetch me coffee unless you’re getting some for yourself, and um, the rest we’ll just make up as we go along” is the same line said by Melanie Griffith (Dakota Johnson’s mother) in 1988’s Working Girl.

• After hearing from fans that the clean-shaven Jamie Dornan wasn’t sexy enough as Christian Grey in the first film the producers decided that he could keep his stubble for both of the sequels.

• The dress Ana wears to the art exhibit at the start of the movie is the same dress she wears in Fifty Shades Of Grey when she negotiates the contract with Christian.

• Jamie Dornan’s character Christian Grey is supposed to be in extraordinary physical shape in the film, so Dornan volunteered to do a gymnastics yoga pose for the film, something that he could already do in real life. The gymnastics pose consisted of balancing his entire body by just holding his wrists onto a pommel horse and holding his body straight with the feet up in the air and the head slanting down. As part of the promotion for the film, Dornan appeared on the late night talk show Conan and performed the feat live for the studio audience.

• Jamie Dornan joked that he did not like doing too many scenes with co-star Eric Johnson who plays his romantic rival in the film because Johnson is “too tall” and doesn’t make him look too good.

• Screenwriter Niall Leonard is the husband of E.L. James, who wrote the book series the films are based on.

Fifty Shades Darker premieres on On Demand May 9. Check your cable system for availability.
