Athletes Make a Run at a Life-Changing Prize in ‘Million Dollar Mile’

Million Dollar Mile

There’s $1 million at the end of the road. The only things standing in the way are a grueling obstacle course and an elite athlete determined to get to the finish line first.

The 10-episode competition series Million Dollar Mile (Wednesdays beginning March 27 at 9pm ET/PT on CBS) gives everyday athletes the chance to win $1 million if they can beat a highly trained, superbly conditioned professional obstacle-course athlete in a head-to-head race.

The series is hosted by former college and NFL football quarterback Tim Tebow, and sportscasters Matt “Money” Smith and Maria Taylor. SpringHill Entertainment, the production company founded by LeBron James and Maverick Carter, is among the producers.

“Watching good people compete at their highest ability is always inspirational to me,” Tebow says. “Million Dollar Mile is a show that does just that — it motivates, thrills and is aspirational, and I’m excited to be hosting this show.”

Many of the contestants have inspirational stories, and winning $1 million would be a life-changing dream come true for them. According to Smith, the pros tasked with crushing that dream — known as “Defenders” — didn’t have many reservations about being the bad guy.

“I do think some of them really embraced that role,” Smith says. “They certainly seemed incentivized to prevent [the contestants]. Whether it’s pride or whatever that incentive was, it was there. It definitely existed. And they were extremely competitive.”
