Was Season 2 of The Handmaid’s Tale too hard to watch? Well, nolite te bastardes carborundorum, because a new dawn is coming to Gilead.
If you were able to get through the intensely brutal first few episodes of Season 2, you saw June (Elisabeth Moss) determined to get both of her daughters out of Gilead, Serena (Yvonne Strahovski) rebelling against her husband (Joseph Fiennes) and Emily (Alexis Bledel) getting some payback against Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd).

The fires of revolution spread in Season 3, which begins June 5 with three episodes available and 10 additional new episodes premiering Wednesdays.
Hulu gave the first glimpse of Season 3 in its Super Bowl commercial, which was inspired by Ronald Reagan’s 1984 “Morning in America” and called for the nation wake up. According to Hulu, Season 3 “is driven by June’s resistance to the dystopian regime of Gilead and her struggle to strike back against overwhelming odds. Startling reunions, betrayal and a journey to the terrifying heart of Gilead force all characters to take a stand, guided by one defiant prayer: ‘Blessed be the fight.’”
Other developments for Season 3:
- Christopher Meloni (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit) and Elizabeth Reaser (Law & Order True Crime) will guest-star as Commander and Mrs. Winslow. Commander Winslow is an influential Gilead official who hosts the Waterfords on an important trip, and Mrs. Winslow becomes a friend and inspiration to Serena.
- Ashleigh LaThrop (The Kominsky Method) joins the cast as Ofmatthew, a Handmaid whose unwavering loyalty to Gilead causes friction with June and her confidantes.
- Bradley Whitford (The West Wing) returns as Commander Joseph Lawrence, a high-ranking economist with questionable loyalties. Whitford has been upped to series regular.
