In the premiere episode, “There’s a Tree Growing Through the Roof!,” the couple tracks down the owners of a home that has been abandoned for 20 years and purchase it to flip. The house is in a great location but rough shape with a tree growing through the roof, making it their most challenging transformation yet.

Following that is the 1965 romance drama A Patch of Blue, in which Sidney Poitier befriends a blind girl and helps her escape her abusive home life. Then, the two-part miniseries Mama Flora’s Family (1998), which follows a woman’s life from the 1910s through the 1970s, and The Temptations (1998), another miniseries, about the singers of the hit Motown group The Temptations, air back-to-back. Finally, The Great White Hope (1970) presents the life of Jack Johnson (James Earl Jones), the first Black heavyweight champion, The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman (1974) depicts African American life in the South at the end of the Civil War through the eyes of a young slave named Jane Pittman, and Conrack (1974) follows a teacher (Jon Voight) who moves to a South Carolina island to teach at an all-Black school.
