Turner Classic Movies’ five-night Star of the Month salute to legendary actress/singer Debbie Reynolds continues tonight with six of her beloved romantic comedies. Up first is Tammy and the Bachelor (1957), the first in the Tammy film franchise (the character would also famously be played by Sandra Dee in the second and third installments), costarring Walter Brennan and Leslie Nielsen. Next, Reynolds stars in and sings the title song for The Mating Game (1959), also featuring Tony Randall and Paul Douglas. After that, Reynolds costars in The Tender Trap (1955) with Frank Sinatra, who also sings Jimmy Van Heusen and Sammy Cahn’s Oscar-nominated song “(Love Is) the Tender Trap.” Rounding out the lineup early tomorrow are Bundle of Joy (1956), This Happy Feeling (1958, making its TCM premiere), and Susan Slept Here (1954).

Among the compelling individual stories is that of youngest sibling Halina (The Act’s Joey King), who proves to be brave and enterprising as she pockets lactic acid (useful in doctoring identity papers) for the black market and at one point is jailed and brutally beaten. Her resilience, and that of the entire family, will leave you awestruck. Expect to cry buckets!

This crime drama, which aired its first season on Showtime, moves to Prime starting with this 10-episode second season. The story takes viewers back to the fictional small town of Buell, Pennsylvania, where police detective Del Harris (Jeff Daniels) becomes compromised when Billy Poe (Alex Neustaedter), the son of the woman he loved, Grace Poe (Maura Tierney), is accused of murder. Harris is forced to decide what he is willing to do to protect them. Season 2 picks up with a string of seemingly unrelated murders, hinting at a much larger conspiracy that threatens everyone in this small, tight-knit town.

In Kari’s corner are her loving parents — Elizabeth and John (played by Roma Downey and Ted McGinley) — and four siblings. Of course, Kari’s compassionate mom is her first call after it all falls apart. Downey was down for the drama, but the Baxters’ relatability really drew in the Touched by an Angel vet. “Here is a series about a quintessential American churchgoing family dealing with real challenges and figuring out a way to come out stronger on the other side,” Downey says. “I know audiences will see themselves in this story.” — Emily Aslanian

Turner Classic Movies’ five-night Star of the Month salute to legendary actress/singer Debbie Reynolds concludes tonight with six of the icon’s films from the 1960s and early ’70s. Up first is the 1964 Western musical comedy The Unsinkable Molly Brown, which earned Reynolds a Best Actress Oscar nomination as the title character, the only Oscar nod of her career. Next, Reynolds and Dick Van Dyke lead the 1967 satire Divorce American Style, which features an Oscar-nominated screenplay by Norman Lear (story by Robert Kaufman). Following that is a little change of pace for Reynolds, as she costars with Shelley Winters in the Oscar-nominated horror film What’s the Matter With Helen? (1971). Tonight’s lineup, and the weeklong salute, come to a close early tomorrow with The Second Time Around (1961), a Western comedy also featuring Andy Griffith; How the West Was Won (1962), an epic Western whose large ensemble cast also includes James Stewart, Spencer Tracy, Gregory Peck, Henry Fonda, Thelma Ritter, Agnes Moorehead and many more notables; and The Singing Nun (1966), with Reynolds in the title role alongside Ricardo Montalbán and Greer Garson.

There is a national sperm shortage. The demand for donated sperm has increased, while the number of men willing to become donors has not. The often prohibitive cost of fertility services and commercial sperm banks has led to an online marketplace that cuts out the middle man. Inspired by journalist Nellie Bowles’ article in The New York Times, director Lance Oppenheim’s feature-length documentary Spermworld explores what he calls an “online, unregulated sperm universe” often involving “strangers meeting to produce life in lonely places: strip malls at night, empty parking lots.” While that might sound seedy, the film reveals how attitudes about parenthood, family and human connection have evolved in an increasingly alienating society. “I wanted to make a film that touched on modern loneliness and the quest to solve that feeling through the internet, altruism and reproduction,” Oppenheim says. — Ryan A. Nearly every year since 1973, with a few exceptions, ABC has re-aired this gigantic 1956 Best Picture Oscar-nominated religious epic on or around Easter — even though it relates more to the Passover holiday, given that its story comes from the Old Testament book of Exodus about Moses’ (Charlton Heston) deliverance of the Israelites from slavery at the hands of Egyptian pharaoh Rameses II (Yul Brynner). That tradition continues this year, as the network airs director Cecil B. DeMille’s thrilling achievement the night before Easter. Already a very lengthy film in its original format, the TV broadcast somehow seems to keep getting longer each year thanks to commercials, so if you’re recording the movie this year, be aware that your DVR will get quite a workout — ABC has it scheduled in a four-hour-and-44-minute time slot! But with a moviegoing experience this grand, the time flies by. It’s easy to say “they don’t make ’em like that anymore” regarding such films, but in the case of The Ten Commandments, that is literally true — with its massive live crowd shots (of both people and animals) and spectacular set designs, the cost of creating a film like this in the manner in which it was produced would certainly be viewed as prohibitive by any studio today. From an era in which biblical epics were common in Hollywood, DeMille’s work is one of the few that remains so highly watched and beloved to this day. Along with Heston in his iconic role as Moses (and as the voice of God via the burning bush) and Brynner, the film is also star-studded with the likes of Anne Baxter, an oddly cast Edward G. Robinson, Yvonne De Carlo, Debra Paget, John Derek, Vincent Price, John Carradine and more. DeMille is at the height of his directorial powers here as he wrangles so much into a captivating, if melodramatic, presentation. Among the film’s other technical achievements are its Oscar-winning special effects, and it also boasts a grand musical score by Elmer Bernstein.
