Season 37 of The Amazing Race has 14 new teams — the largest cast ever — embarking on a journey of a lifetime. Teams will encounter game-changing twists in every episode. One of the new twists, Fork in the Road, makes teams choose which direction and route they want to take to the Pit Stop, creating two parallel races in which two teams will be eliminated. Destinations this season include Hong Kong, Japan, Dubai, Bulgaria and Strasbourg, France.

Actress Ruby Catherine Stevens, better known as screen icon Barbara Stanwyck, is celebrated each Wednesday night, and continuing well into Thursday, this month on Turner Classic Movies with several of her memorable films. The lineups are largely separated by various genres, showing how versatile a star Stanwyck was. This delightfully offbeat and intricate 1973 dark comedy/whodunit murder mystery was directed by Herbert Ross, and cowritten by composer Stephen Sondheim and actor Anthony Perkins, one of the collaborations between the longtime friends. Apparently, though, Sondheim was famed in theater circles for concocting complex puzzles and scavenger hunts (he even inspired the main character in Anthony Shaffer’s play Sleuth). Those sorts of games are evident in the screenplay he and Perkins came up with, about a wealthy widower (James Coburn) who, a year after his wife, Sheila’s (Yvonne Romain), death in a hit-and-run, invites a group of friends to spend a week on his yacht playing a scavenger hunt mystery game. It starts becoming all too real and all too deadly, though, as secrets from among the group begin to come out. Richard Benjamin, Dyan Cannon, Joan Hackett, James Mason, Ian McShane and Raquel Welch also lead the cast of this film, which Rian Johnson has said was among the inspirations for his film Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. If you miss it tonight, The Last of Sheila also happens to be airing the evening of Sunday, March 9 on Turner Classic Movies.

Turner Classic Movies is celebrating International Women’s Day today with three films from director Dorothy Arzner. Beginning her motion picture career as an editor during the early silent era, Arzner began directing in the late 1920s. From then until she retired from feature directing in the early ’40s, Arzner was pretty much the only woman director working in Hollywood. She was the first woman to join the Directors Guild of America and the first woman to direct a sound film, and she helped launch the careers of several iconic actresses, including Katharine Hepburn, Rosalind Russell and Lucille Ball, some of whom you’ll see in this evening’s triple feature. Up first is Craig’s Wife (1936), a drama led by Russell as a dominating wife. John Boles and Billie Burke costar. After that is Merrily We Go to Hell (1932), a romantic comedy/drama led by Fredric March and Sylvia Sidney, and with a prominent early supporting appearance by Cary Grant. The lineup concludes with Christopher Strong (1933), a romantic drama starring Colin Clive and Hepburn in her second screen role and first starring role.
