A Life’s Worth
Viaplay
New Series!
Inspired by true events and Magnus Ernström’s novel A Half Year, an Entire Life, this six-part drama from Sweden draws on firsthand accounts from UN soldiers and civilians during the Bosnian War, one of Europe’s most devastating modern conflicts. A Life’s Worth portrays young soldiers confronting the unknown and a population scarred by intra-ethnic violence. Rather than focusing on the mechanics of warfare, the series explores resilience, moral dilemmas and bonds that form under fire, making it a deeply human and universally relevant story. It also captures the war’s toll on civilians across ethnic and religious lines — disrupted lives, fractured families and the emotional weight of loss. Amid chaos, there is also hope, love, and light in the darkest moments. A Life’s Worth tells of human brutality and impossible choices, but also of friendship, love and trust.

“Halloween” on Halloween
AMC, beginning at 2pm
Catch a Classic!
Celebrate the season with a chilling Halloween marathon featuring the iconic films that made Michael Myers a legend of horror, with Halloween (1978), Halloween II (1981), Halloween (2007), Halloween III: Season of the Witch, Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers and Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers. The marathon begins with Halloween III, as that film had a completely different narrative. John Carpenter and producing partner Debra Hill branched out, putting the previous story to rest and going with an Invasion of the Body Snatchers-like tale involving a plan to kill the children of the world via fragments of Stonehenge placed in Halloween masks. The masks turned their wearer into a mush of snakes and bugs, leading to one of the franchise’s most memorable kills. Poor box office/critical reception for Halloween III led to The Shape’s return in the next film, plus the introduction of a fan-favorite character.

Iconic images and characters define noir more than most other movie genres: the hardboiled detective, the dark alleys and streets, corrupt cops, the femme fatale. “Femme fatale” might as well just have Rita Hayworth’s picture next to it in the dictionary. Her turn in Gilda (1946) shines, along with her costumes and dance numbers, as a casino owner’s moll who gets romantically mixed up with Glenn Ford’s gambler who’s been tasked with keeping an eye on the singer. In a now-famous quote, Hayworth described how her sexy movie character affected her real life after the popular movie: “Men go to bed with Gilda but wake up with me.”

Catch a Classic!
Tall, dark and handsome. Rock Hudson hit two of those marks. 6’4”? Check. Chiseled jaw, broad shoulders and soft brown eyes? Check. But Hudson was never mysterious, withdrawn or bad-boy compelling. His earnest look, and sometimes even mild bashfulness (packaged with that high school quarterback’s body), endeared him to audiences and made him a top box office draw across the 1950s and into the early ’60s, when he created his most memorable roles and movies. Turner Classic Movies celebrates Hudson as its Star of the Month every Tuesday in November, with his first marathon night including one of the finest American movies ever, director George Stevens’ Giant (1956) at 9:45pm (ET). Costarring other movie greats Elizabeth Taylor and James Dean, it’s an intramural Texas scrimmage of cattlemen vs. oilmen, Hudson’s straightforward, often overwhelming charisma vs. Dean’s smoldering intensity. The epic story covers decades in the entangled, passionate lives of the three leads and the evolution of the Lone Star State from wide open prairies to a skyline dotted with oil rigs. It also earned Hudson his only Academy Award nomination.

New Series!
This new mockumentary-style comedy from sibling writers Jeff and Liz Astrof is set in the unexpectedly cutthroat world of junior college cheer teams. The team includes a senior in his 30s (Ryan Pinkston), a “cheerlebrity” (Anissa Borrego), an energetic narcoleptic (Arianna Davis) and a kleptomaniac (Taylor Dunbar). Kristin Chenoweth has a recurring role as Tammy, the assistant coach who takes over when Courteney is fired. Tammy still acts and dresses like she’s stuck in her cheer heyday in 1989. Two for One: Brian Tyree Henry
TCM, beginning at 8pm
Catch a Classic!
In tonight’s Two for One re-airing, TCM primetime host Ben Mankiewicz is joined by Emmy-, Tony- and Oscar-nominated actor Brian Tyree Henry, who introduces two films of his choosing. Henry will offer commentary on each title’s cultural significance and its influence on other films, behind-the-scenes stories and his own personal reflections. First up is 1959’s Oscar-nominated Imitation of Life, which sees Lana Turner as a single mother who dreams of the Broadway stage and, after a chance encounter, ends up taking in an African American widow (Juanita Moore, in a Golden Globe- and Academy Award-nominated turn) with a light-skinned daughter. Together, they struggle to raise their children amid a world of prejudice in a film that has remained significant throughout the years. 1969’s The Learning Tree is Henry’s second selection. The film tells a sentimental coming-of-age story about Newt Winger (Kyle Johnson), an African American Kansas boy from a poor family whose journey to adulthood is marked with tragedy and hard lessons about love, trust and racial hardships.
