CNN anchor and senior national correspondent Sara Sidner presents an inside look at the decades-long relationship between UFC and President Donald Trump in tonight’s new episode. As UFC prepares for a historic fight card on the South Lawn, Sidner examines the sport’s unlikely rise from its controversial beginnings to a powerful cultural and political force. In a wide-ranging and candid interview, UFC President Dana White discusses the evolution of his relationship with Trump, the criticism surrounding the perception of UFC as a MAGA-aligned brand, and the unprecedented logistics and cost of staging a fight event at the White House. Sidner also goes inside UFC headquarters and speaks with fighters Michael Chandler and Steve Garcia as they prepare for the landmark event. Along the way, she explores how UFC’s predominantly young male fanbase has become an increasingly powerful political demographic, and how Trump and his allies have embraced the sport and broader “manosphere” culture to connect with younger male voters. “A sport once banned in 36 states for its no-rules brutality has morphed into the fastest-growing sport in the world over the past 20 years, and its power has seeped into politics,” says Sidner. “I wanted to dive into this world to see all its facets, from those inside the UFC machine to its critics. One thing is clear: this isn’t just a fight night on the South Lawn. It’s much bigger than that.”

Edith Wharton had insider knowledge of New York’s upper-class society during the Gilded Age, which served as inspiration for her novels. That novel was adapted by Martin Scorsese in 1993, with Daniel Day-Lewis starring as wealthy lawyer Newland Archer, who is engaged to May Welland (Winona Ryder). Cracks start to form when May’s cousin, the Countess Ellen Olenska (Michelle Pfeiffer), makes Newland question everything he thought he knew about love during Ellen’s visit. This film was nominated for five Oscars, taking home the win for Best Costume Design. The night continues with The Old Maid (1939), based on Zoë Akins’ 1935 Pulitzer Prize-winning play, which originated from Wharton’s novella The Old Maid: The Fifties. Bette Davis plays Charlotte, who sneaks away with her cousin Delia’s (Miriam Hopkins) former fiancé, Clem (George Brent) — a decision that changes their lives forever.

Star of the Month: Marilyn Monroe
TCM, beginning at 8pm
Catch a Classic!
TCM continues to honor the legendary Marilyn Monroe as Star of the Month beginning with Clash by Night (1952). Monroe was credited above the title for Clash by Night, but she was still the fourth actor listed in this supporting role before her breakout 1953 year. Monroe plays a fish cannery worker and the girlfriend of Stanwyck’s brother in a more settled relationship that contrasts with Stanwyck’s turbulent passions. Immediately following is Don’t Bother to Knock (1952), where Monroe plays an unstable babysitter wreaking havoc on those around her by physically threatening the child she cares for. The night continues with the legendary The Asphalt Jungle (1950) and concludes with Right Cross (1950).
