Syfy’s “The Internet Ruined My Life” shows social media isn’t all LOLs

From nude pictures accidentally tweeted to the wrong people to bullying via hashtags and memes, social media can sometimes be a cruel and dangerous world. Syfy’s new half-hour series will chronicle some of the more extreme examples of this, from an innocent tweet that caused two traveling friends to be detained and suspected of terrorism, to a hashtag that unleashed death threats and a sniper outside a woman’s window, to a profile picture that got transformed into a hateful meme shared by hundreds of thousands. Each story will be told through first-person accounts, and is taken from the headlines. “With […]

Sharknado 4 casting announced

Syfy’s Sharknado original movie franchise has, for better or worse, become a summer tradition, especially for Twitter snarkers who like to take jabs at the increasingly outrageous scenarios and cameos in the films. Sharknado 4 (working title) is currently filming, and Syfy has announced initial casting for the followup. Ian Ziering and Tara Reid will return in their roles as Fin Shepard and April Wexler (apparently the film will reveal the outcome of the fan-voted #AprilLives or #AprilDies social campaign). David Hasselhoff, who first showed up in Sharknado 3, will also be back as Gil Shepard, and Ryan Newman will return as Claudia Shepard. New […]

John Oliver takes a giant Drumpf on Donald Trump in latest “Last Week Tonight” clip

In a much more funny, generally more mature and cerebral take than the approach taken by those who would accuse Donald Trump of peeing his pants, or of basically having a small penis, John Oliver, in his imitable fashion, finally tackled The Donald after purposely avoiding him on his HBO show, Last Week Tonight. In case you didn’t see Oliver’s takedown of the man he compares to a back mole — something you might ignore until it becomes so big, scary-looking and out of control that you must deal with it — last night because you were watching the Oscars, it’s worth […]

Craig Ferguson says History’s “Join or Die” features “unhinged, dangerous, rollicking” conversation

It’s always nice to see when a network gets back to its original mission — and its name — and History has been doing a fine job of that of late. For history buffs, miniseries like Texas Rising have helped complement other series like Pawn Stars, and the new series Join or Die With Craig Ferguson should also be a welcome addition for those who like to discuss, and debate, history. The series is the brainchild of former late-night host Craig Ferguson, and will feature a roundtable of people talking about six historical events or figures, whittling them down to […]

Feeln offers “Your Perfect Valentine’s Date” in the form of Fabio

I, frankly, wasn’t aware Fabio was still around and doing things (glad to see he’s feeling better following that incident with a goose, though). Of course, in Fabio’s case, “doing things” generally meant hanging around looking sexy, and that’s what he’s up to again in his latest gig, for the Feeln streaming service. View post on imgur.com Feeln, the SVOD service and subsidiary of Hallmark Cards, has enlisted the Italian supermodel and romance novel coverboy to appear as a virtual “date” for viewers this Valentine’s Day. The stream of the date goes live starting today, Feb. 10, at feeln.com, and begins with Fabio, clad […]

New to On Demand: Spectre

Spectre, the 24th entry in the official James Bond feature film franchise that has spanned over 50 years and counting, closes its end credits with the line familiar to fans over many years: “James Bond Will Return.” Normally, this would leave us with a sense of excitement and anticipation over what Bond’s next film adventure would be, but as I read this just before leaving the theater, after watching the fairly rote film before it, I just had a sense of weariness and even wondered whether James Bond should return. The Bond films will go on, of course, if only […]
