Video: Madison Rising performs theme song for new Sarah Palin Sportsman Channel series

Last month, Madison Rising — billed as “America’s most patriotic rock band” — went viral with their take on the “Star-Spangled Banner” at Daytona. (Their original YouTube video featuring their rendition of the national anthem, from 2012, has garnered nearly 5.3 million views on YouTube.) The band has now moved on to create and perform the theme song for the upcoming new Sportsman Channel series Amazing America with Sarah Palin. “We are honored to have been asked to write a song for Sportsman Channel and Governor Palin’s new show – Amazing America,” said Madison Rising lead singer Dave Bray, in […]

90-minute “Friday Night Tykes” special looks at topics raised in series

Esquire Network‘s Friday Night Tykes has been one of the more controversial new shows of the year. The reality series, which airs its regular season finale March 25 at 9pm ET/PT, offered a glimpse into youth football as played by the 8- and 9-year-olds in the Rookies division of the San Antonio region of the Texas Youth Football Association (TYFA). Given the revelations of the potential for serious injury, especially head trauma, in recent years as related to the NFL, college and high school football, the ways in which parents and coaches could be seen pushing these children during the […]

Fourth and final season of “The Boondocks” coming to Adult Swim

Still enjoying re-airs of The Boondocks on Saturday nights, I had been wondering if the animated series was still in production, and according to a release today from Adult Swim, it is. The fourth and final season of The Boondocks will begin April 21 at 10:30pm ET/PT. However, this season is going to be produced without the involvement of Aaron McGruder — who created the series and the original comic strip on which it is based. According to the release, a mutually agreeable production schedule could not be determined. I hope McGruder’s lack of involvement does not diminish what has […]

Simon Schama tells “The Story of the Jews” for PBS

Acclaimed historian and Columbia University professor Simon Schama’s newest history series delves into the Jewish experience, from the start of their story 3,000 years ago to the present day, in the five-part PBS program The Story of the Jews With Simon Schama. The series is mesmerizing, and beautiful, especially considering the fact that Schama, an art historian and critic, often uses artwork as a gateway into many of the stories. Jewish history is sometimes thought of as black-and-white, and text-based, with not much colorful art, partly due to the fact that the people were often on the move. Schama himself […]

Alec Baldwin guest-stars on “SVU” in Mariska Hargitay’s directorial debut

Alec Baldwin is not completely getting out of the public eye, as he is guest-starring on tonight’s episode of Law & Order: SVU, which also marks the directorial debut for series star Mariska Hargitay. In the episode, called “Criminal Stories,” Alec Baldwin plays a renowned New York columnist named Jimmy MacArthur. MacArthur is given full access to Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and the squad for an inside look at the city’s Special Victims Unit. When the rape case of a young Muslim woman (guest star Summer Bishil) escalates to a hate crime, MacArthur stays one step ahead of the investigation and […]

MTV launches memorial site for “Teen Wolf” character Allison Argent

The shocking death of a popular character is not new to television (ask anyone who remembers Lt. Col. Henry Blake’s plane going down over the Sea of Japan on the classic M*A*S*H episode), and the resulting outrage and sadness among many fans of that character is also not new. However, what is new, coming in the wake of the death of fan-favorite Allison Argent (played by Crystal Reed, pictured) in last night’s Teen Wolf, is a network creating an online memorial to that character. TeenWolfMemorial.com launched immediately following last night’s Teen Wolf, and a release says that makes MTV “the […]

Veronica Mars movie available On Demand same day as theatrical release

The day Veronica Mars fans have long waited for is nearly here — the release of the theatrical film based on the TV series, which ended in 2007, is on March 14. The project has come about due in large part to these fans, who set records on Kickstarter to help fund the Veronica Mars movie, pitching in $2 million in 10 hours through the crowdfunding source. Perhaps befitting its original incarnation as a TV series, the Veronica Mars movie will also be available in homes via Movies On Demand the same day as the film’s March 14 theatrical release. […]
