“First guest sets the tone”: SNL pal Amy Poehler helps Seth Meyers ease into “Late Night”

Although kind of joking about it, Amy Poehler clearly recognized that she had an important role as the first guest on her former Saturday Night Live colleague, and still good friend, Seth Meyers’ new show Late Night with Seth Meyers. At one point in their interview, Poehler said that she felt the “first guest sets the tone.” Their interview came about a half hour into the show. The first half of the program featured Meyers “shaking things up” (as he quipped) with a monologue (Meyers did not dive right into how thankful he was for the gig, as Jimmy Fallon […]

David Walton says “About a Boy” series “not beholden” to Nick Hornby novel or film

People who have read Nick Hornby’s novel About a Boy, and/or seen the 2002 film adaptation starring Hugh Grant, may have a sense of deja vu when watching the premiere episode of NBC’s half-hour series adaptation. The pilot episode pretty much encapsulates almost the entirety of those previous two projects. “We kind of tell the story of the movie in 20 minutes,” series star David Walton pointed out when I talked to him last month. Walton thinks that approach worked, because, “now we’re in uncharted territory. The book doesn’t really address where the series is going, and the movie doesn’t. […]

Jimmy Kimmel and Kate Hansen explain “Sochi Wolf” hoax video

Late Wednesday night/early Thursday morning, you may have seen the viral video that exploded onto a number of media outlets after being tweeted out by U.S. Olympic luger Kate Hansen. The video purported to show what looked like a wolf roaming the hallway outside of Hansen’s dorm in Sochi, Russia. Given all the press regarding Sochi’s incredible number of stray dogs, it wasn’t too much of a stretch for most viewers to believe that perhaps the city had a problem with wolves, as well. And a debate even raged as to whether the animal seen in the video was actually […]

Sportsman Channel releases promo for new Sarah Palin series

Captain America’s got nothing on Sarah Palin when it comes to donning the ol’ red, white and blue, at least as far as the promo below is concerned. The clip is a tease for Palin’s new series Amazing America with Sarah Palin, coming to Sportsman Channel April 3 at 8pm ET. In Amazing America, the “Mama Grizzly” (dubbed “First Lady of the Outdoors” by Sportsman Channel) hosts an anthology of stories that explore people, places and pastimes connected to America’s outdoor lifestyle. 7 Questions With Jenna Elfman of NBC’s “Growing Up Fisher”

Emmy-nominated actress Jenna Elfman may be best remembered as the first half of the titular couple Dharma & Greg on that hit 1997-2002 sitcom, but she’s back on TV in another comedy, NBC’s Growing Up Fisher. The series is being previewed following coverage of the Winter Olympics Closing Ceremony Feb. 23 at 10:30pm ET before moving to its Tuesdays at 9:30pm ET timeslot starting Feb. 25. Elfman plays young-at-heart mom Joyce Fisher — a mom who is perhaps too young at heart, Joyce’s teenage daughter Katie might argue. “[Joyce] wants to be able to actually shine because she was very […]

“Snake Salvation” special to remember Pastor Jamie Coots

This Thursday, Feb. 20, National Geographic Channel (NGC) will air a one-hour special retrospective compilation from its series Snake Salvation, which it says will remember the life of Pastor Jamie Coots. NGC also told me that this will likely be the last episode of Snake Salvation, as they currently do not have plans for any additional episodes. Coots (pictured) was the star of Snake Salvation, a reality series that followed Coots and his Pentecostal congregation who believe that a passage in the Bible suggests that poisonous snakebites will not harm believers who are anointed by God. They incorporate snake-handling into […]
