Posted by Sarah The season premiere had everything we love about Star Wars — the sound effects, the score, Obi-Wan’s Dirty Dancing musical number … With tracing-paper-accurate scenes and some of the best writing the show has ever had, Family Guy did as clever a send-up of the sci-fi epic as Robot Chicken did a few months ago.

The show’s been delighting sci-fi fans for years with its smatterings of Star Wars and Star Trek references, and I’ve been wishin’ and hopin’ and prayin’ that it would follow Robot Chicken‘s lead. The crassest comedy on television returned last night with two wonderfully depraved episodes that pay (dis)respect to recent movies. In “The Gang Finds a Dumpster Baby,” Dennis takes inspiration from Al Gore’s global warming warning An Inconvenient Truth and tries to join a group of environmental activists. They are the Odd Couple of modern TV — Ari (Jeremy Piven), Hollywood’s power-hungry, egomaniac talent agent, and Lloyd (Rex Lee), his subservient assistant. David Cross, the actor and comedian best known for HBO’s hilarious variety show Mr. Show With Bob and David and FOX’s brilliant-but-canceled Arrested Development, takes on a new TV project with the Oct. 4 Comedy Central premiere of Freak Show, an animated comedy he co-created with H.
