The Walking Dead Season 4: Date, time, TV channel, preview and more!

Ask Andrew Lincoln what four seasons of The Walking Dead can do to a man and he points to his beard. “Can you see my gray hair?” he laughs, stroking the salt-and-pepper patches that have taken residence on his once-boyish face. The British actor now wears every one of his 40 years, and it’s no wonder, given the incredible physical and emotional demands of playing Rick Grimes, the de facto leader of a group of ragged survivors in AMC’s gruesomely successful horror show. It helps then to have familiar faces to go through all that with, but this being a […]

Boardwalk Empire recap: Season 4 episode 5 “Erlkönig”

In the world run thoroughly by corrupt agents that is 1920s America and HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, there is little distinguishing between “good guys” and “bad guys,” which leaves us generally rooting for those among bad who go about their badness with some semblance of common sense and at least some universalist notion of honor. This generally puts them at odds with worse of the bad – the Machiavels, the draconians, the narcissists – and makes the worse act even more the heel, which only shores up our predisposition. Last night’s episode put some stark, ugly and, in a couple cases, […]

Scandal Season 3 recap: Episode 1 – “It’s Handled”

Scandal Season 3 recap: Episode 1 — “It’s Handled” By Sterling Silver III Scandal Season 3 started with Vanessa Chandler (Jennifer Peo) reporting the affair between the president (Tony Goldwyn) and Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington). Olivia was just about to leave for a run when she was met with the media bombshell. She hopped in the limo she was guided to and was met by her father, Rowan Pope (otherwise known as the look-alike, personality-opposite Magic Johnson, played by Joe Morton). Rowan shook his daughter’s confidence with a pressure-filled lecture on a new identity, new bank account, and a new country away […]

“24: Live Another Day” will be set in London

20th Century Fox Television announced today that the upcoming FOX event series 24 Live Another Day — the follow-up to the hit action series that is coming in Summer Spring 2014 — will be filming in London, making it the first 24 production to film abroad since the 2008 telefilm 24: Redemption. “24 has always had such a global sensibility,” said star Kiefer Sutherland, who is reprising his role as Jack Bauer and who also serves as an executive producer on the event series. “But to be able to tell this intense 24-style story with the beauty of Europe’s history and architecture as the backdrop […]

“The Originals” takes “Vampire Diaries” to New Orleans

It’s about time all these ancient vampires started acting their age. The CW’s latest fang fest takes characters introduced in the decidedly youth-friendly Vampire Diaries universe and lets them take a more “bacchanalian” approach to immortality, as executive producer Julie Plec puts it. “We graduated high school [with The Vampire Diaries] and went to college and are getting our little master’s degree in The Originals,” she says. Klaus (Joseph Morgan), Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Rebekah (Claire Holt) make the journey from Mystic Falls to New Orleans, where vampires, werewolves and witches are locked in a deadly struggle for control. Marcel […]

Sons of Anarchy Season 6 recap: “Wolfsangel”

I’m of two minds about “Wolfsangel.” On the one hand, it’s amazing that a show can still genuinely shock me six seasons in. On the other, Sons of Anarchy Season 6 is dancing on that razor-thin line separating shocking twists from just jerking you around. The next few episodes will tell the tale. Instead of taking you through every event in detail, then giving you the big news, I need to just get this out there right now. Lee Toric (Donal Logue) is dead. The former U.S. Marshal out for vengeance against SAMCRO for the brutal murder of his sister, […]

Boardwalk Empire recap: ‘All In’

It could be seen as ominous last night on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire when Eddie (Anthony Laciura) repaired with new business associate/friend Ralph Capone (Domenick Lombardozzi) to a beerhall populated with fellow German expatriates and spilled a little too proudly of his elevated status within his organization. The organization, of course, is the Atlantic City-based bootlegging empire of Nucky Thompson. After taking a dose of lead in the war with mafia don Joe Masseria, Eddie picked up a limp but also a promotion from Nucky’s Man Friday to administrative capo, hence his making the drop of a payoff to the Capone […]

Masters of Sex: Michael Sheen and Lizzie Caplan on playing sexologists Masters and Johnson

Their names were synonymous with things folks didn’t discuss in polite company in the ’50s, but agonized over in private — until their 1966 tome Human Sexual Response made it downright fashionable to talk about sex. Now Showtime is bringing the life, and life’s work, of famed sex researchers William Masters and Virginia Johnson to fascinating light in its new series Masters of Sex, which premieres Sunday, Sept. 29 at 10/9CT. Michael Sheen (Frost/Nixon) and Lizzie Caplan (New Girl) are engrossing as Masters and Johnson in this beautifully crafted character study culled from the 2009 book by critically acclaimed biographer […]

A Young Doctor’s Notebook: Jon Hamm, Daniel Radcliffe play the same M.D. in Ovation series

Physician, Heal Thyself: Jon Hamm and Daniel Radcliffe play the younger and older versions of a troubled Russian physician in A Young Doctor’s Notebook which has its American television premiere Oct. 2 on Ovation.  Jon Hamm is 6’2″, from America’s Corn Belt and best known as unscrupulous ad exec Don Draper on AMC’s Mad Men. Daniel Radcliffe is 5’5″ and English as Earl Grey, and became an international superstar by age 12 as the feature-film incarnation of literary kid wizard Harry Potter. Hardly two guys you’d peg to play the same guy in shared scenes in a single production. But as […]
