Mad Men Season 6 finale ratings highest for season ender in series history

Though some fans and critics expressed ambivalence — or even outright distaste — for the sixth season of AMC’s Mad Men, Sunday night’s season ender drew the highest finale ratings in the series’ history. The episode, which even detractors embraced, delivered an average of 2.7 viewers, down from the season premiere’s 3.4 million viewers, but an impressive gain from the season average of 2.4 million viewers. “There is nothing else on television like ‘Mad Men,’ and for the series in its sixth season to deliver the highest-rated finale ever — and an episode that critics and fans have already declared an instant […]

Jodi Arias Dirty Little Secret: director Jace Alexander on why the film might surprise you

If you’re wondering how Lifetime’s Jodi Arias biopic Jodi Arias: Dirty Little Secret can premiere mere weeks after the sensational months-long trial came to a close, the answer is surprisingly simple. The filmmakers say they always intended for the movie to focus on the doomed lovers at the trial’s bloodstained heart — Arias and her victim Travis Alexander — before their final, fatal encounter. “We didn’t set out to make a courtroom drama, because that’s not what fascinated us about this story,” says director Jace Alexander (Law & Order, Rescue Me), who is no relation to Travis Alexander. “The courtroom […]

Preview: BBC America’s Copper Season 2

“[In Copper Season 2] we wanted to raise the stakes and dive into the 1860s political machine by bringing in a Boss Tweed-like character to shake things up,” says co-creator and executive producer, Tom Fontana. “With the addition of General Brendan Donovan, we reveal a highly volatile faction of old New York City, Tammany Hall, and sink our characters into storylines including counterfeiting, illegal Union Army recruitment, the 13th amendment and its ramifications for ‘freed’ slaves, public health hazards and more. By making the universe a little fuller, it gave us a chance to breathe new life into the history […]

“Under the Dome” brings thought-provoking Stephen King thriller to CBS

Small towns are often referred to as being isolated and cut off from the rest of the world, but that expression takes on a horrifyingly literal meaning in CBS’ Under the Dome (premiering 10pm ET Monday). The tranquil hamlet of Chester’s Mill is going about its Norman Rockwellian existence one day when suddenly an invisible dome emerges and encapsulates the entire town, not letting anyone in or out. That’s when the 2,000 or so residents become a microcosm of society, with the major players including Dale “Barbie” Barbara (Mike Vogel, Bates Motel), an ex-military man now making his living as a waiter; […]

7 Questions With Sherri Saum of ABC Family’s “The Fosters”

In its second week, ABC Family’s hot-button drama The Fosters saw a surge in viewership, leading some to ponder whether the controversy surrounding the show was a factor in drawing more eyeballs. The well-reviewed drama about a mixed-race, lesbian couple heading up a family where they are raising one’s biological son, along with a pair of adopted Latino twins and now a troubled foster daughter, drew the ire of conservative groups like One Million Moms for its subject matter. This was no surprise to star Sherri Saum, who plays one of the moms on the show. I talked with her […]

Jon Tenney is the King in TNT’s detective drama “King & Maxwell”

TNT adds more ampersands and more private eyes to its drama lineup. Jon Tenney and Rebecca Romijn star as best-selling author David Baldacci’s popular characters Sean King and Michelle Maxwell, former Secret Service agents who use their unique skills — not to mention their razor-sharp chemistry — to give them a leg up on conventional law enforcement.   By Jay Bobbin Clearly, TNT loves Jon Tenney. And the feeling is mutual, since the actor has worked for the cable network for the better part of the past decade. After his long run as FBI Special Agent Fritz Howard — longtime […]
