In preparation for its epic, four-hour miniseries airing Dec. 11 and 12, A&E has launched an online prequel to Stephen King’s Bag of Bones called Dark Score Stories. Billed as a visual and interactive exploration of the setting and characters of Bag of Bones, visitors will be treated to a series of eerie, animated images, along with still photographs and audio interviews. Of course, those seeking even more info on Bag of Bones can read our two-part conversation with director Mick Garris. Click here for Part 1 and here for Part 2. Photo: Credit: Chris Reardon

“Haunting Hour” gives Dylan Minnette a “Brush With Madness”

I started my conversation with Dylan Minnette by telling him how much I hated his guts. And the young star took it as the compliment it was intended to be. We were on the phone to discuss Minnette’s turn in this week’s episode of R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour, where he plays the lead role in a nasty little ditty called “Brush With Madness.” But I had just finished ushering in Halloween a couple days earlier by rewatching Let Me In, the intense vampire story that features Minnette all-too-convincingly portraying a loathsome bully (link NSFW) who makes the main character’s […]

Director Mick Garris talks A&E’s Stephen King shocker “Bag of Bones”: Part 2

Click here for Part 1 Tell me a little about how production went. Mick Garris: It actually went really well. It’s a very complex movie. It was shot for 39 days in Nova Scotia. You’ve read the book so you know that the Mike Noonan character is in virtually every scene, and a lot of them by himself. Normally an actor doesn’t run from Day 1 to Day 39 straight through and always there, but other than one day Pierce did the whole thing and a lot of it alone. And because you don’t shoot in order, it’s always interesting. […]

Frankie Jonas gets the creeps on tonight’s “The Haunting Hour”

By Stacey Harrison Follow @ChannelGuideSRH Being the youngest sibling of a world-famous musical trio may bring you lots of perks, but it might not be enough to protect you from an evil pumpkin farmer. Frankie Jonas finds this out in tonight’s episode of R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour, which premieres at 5pm. In “Pumpkinhead,” Jonas plays the youngest sibling in a group of kids who find themselves alone on Halloween night. Living in a town where kids have gone missing the last few years, trick-or-treating has been severely restricted. Looking for a little excitement, they head out to a pumpkin […]

“Real Steel’s” Dakota Goyo flies the scary skies on “The Haunting Hour”

It’s a good time to be Dakota Goyo. The 12-year-old actor has been earning wild praise for his role in Real Steel, the current No. 1 movie in America, in which he more than holds his own against co-star Hugh Jackman and a bunch of giant CGI robots. He also shared screen time earlier this year with Anthony Hopkins, playing the younger version of Chris Hemsworth in Thor. This weekend his path to stardom makes a pit stop on The Hub, where he will star in “Flight,” an episode of R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour airing at 5pm Saturday. Goyo […]

Director Mick Garris talks A&E’s Stephen King shocker “Bag of Bones”: Part 1

Having adapted a Stephen King work certainly doesn’t make Mick Garris unique. Dozens of directors have used the horror master’s novels, stories and screenplays as the basis for projects, with wildly varying degrees of success. What is unique about Garris, though, is the relationship he’s established with King, who has trusted him to helm some of the author’s most personal works. They met briefly on the set of 1992’s Sleepwalkers during one of King’s signature cameos. From there, King pushed for Garris to direct 1994’s epic miniseries The Stand, and then another passion project of King’s, the 1997 miniseries of […]

“Walking Dead” Season 2 premiere scores record ratings for basic cable

Last night’s Season 2 premiere of The Walking Dead pulled in record ratings for basic cable in two key demographics, besting last year’s season average by more than 35%. Here’s how it breaks down: 4.8 MILLION VIEWERS ADULTS 18-49 4.2 MILLION VIEWERS ADULTS 25-54 7.3 MILLION TOTAL VIEWERS 11 MILLION TOTAL VIEWERS FOR THE NIGHT A very happy Charlie Collier, AMC president, says in a release, “The Walking Dead is one of those rare television programs that reaches both a core genre fan as well as broad audiences simply looking for a great, character-based story. We’re so proud of and […]

Frank Darabont did sound kinda burned out on “The Walking Dead”

On Friday, July 22, the cast and producers of The Walking Dead assembled in San Diego to bask in the adoration of fans at Comic-Con. Among them was Frank Darabont, the Academy Award-nominated writer/director of The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile, who shepherded the zombie-apocalypse drama from the black-and-white pages of Robert Kirkman’s comic book to television, where it became the highest-rated show on AMC. Darabont met with hordes of reporters, including myself, and appeared on the brink of exhaustion at times. Understandable, given the show’s relentless production schedule, and the rumblings we’d all been hearing about behind-the-scenes conflicts […]

AMC resurrects “The Walking Dead” for Season 2

While the drama going on behind the scenes — the ousting of creator/showrunner Frank Darabont, and how the decision might have been linked to AMC spending too much money on Mad Men — is the stuff of bad soap operas, there’s no denying the quality of what gets onscreen in The Walking Dead, the network’s highest-rated show. More than 10 months will have passed between the debut season’s abbreviated six-episode run and the premiere of Season 2 — which begins Sunday at 9pm — and anticipation has only grown in that time. Several storylines were left dangling, including the complicated […]
