Empire Season 2 Episode 12 Recap: The Dwight Walker Story

On last week’s episode of Empire, we saw Hakeem take the reins as the new CEO of Empire. While he’s still being controlled by his puppeteer, Camilla, it seems that Hakeem is willing to keep the business in the family. He’s allowed for Cookie to be the head of A&R, Andre to be the chief financial officer of Empire and president of Gutter Life Records, and for Jamal to focus on his music with Empire. I’m sure Camilla has a few words to say about all these decisions. Lucious is giving Hakeem three months as CEO before he’ll come crawling […]

Empire Season 2 Episode 11 Recap: Life, Death and Business

With Lucious losing the Empire to Mimi and Hakeem going against his own father by siding with Camilla, there are high expectations for the Season 2 return of Empire. We last saw Rhonda as she was pushed down the stairs in her new home — the one that Lucious so willingly paid for. Since Anika is pregnant with Hakeem’s secret misfit child, it would seem that Anika is at the top of the suspect list for who’s responsible. Jealousy is one ugly monster. Rhonda is left crawling on the floor to get her phone and call for help. She doesn’t get a […]

Kiefer Sutherland announces music tour, record release

Heads up, Kiefer Sutherland fans! Turns out, Kevin Bacon’s not the only former FOX network star to turn his attention to music. The former 24 star will launch a nationwide music tour on April 14 — right here in my Milwaukee hometown — in support of his upcoming folk album Down In A Hole, due for a summer release.  In 2002, Sutherland launched the Ironworks record label with his friend and music partner, Jude Cole, setting their sights on affording bigger opportunities to local talent.  Sutherland left the label in 2009, returning to music in early 2015, when he reunited with Cole and began penning and […]

“Dirty Dancing” Casts Its Johnny

Lionsgate and ABC have found their Johnny to star in the upcoming three-hour filmed musical event, Dirty Dancing. At this time, no date for the spectacular has been announced. Singer/dancer/actor Colt Prattes (P!nk’s music video “Try”, Rock of Ages) will be showing Baby (Abigail Breslin) the time of her life as romantic lead Johnny, a charismatic, skilled dance instructor and leader of the working-class entertainment staff at a 1960’s Catskill Mountains resort. I am in a awe of this video, and the subsequent performance during the 2012 AMA’s, so I’m so pleased for this talented performer to get the attention he deserves. […]

Vinyl — Martin Scorsese, Mick Jagger and Terence Winter spin a stunning rock ’n’ roll tale on HBO

We like it, like it, yes we do! Vinyl airs Sundays at 9/8CT on HBO beginning Feb. 14. When Olivia Wilde was a kid, she crashed her journalist parents’ dinner party to demand that one guest vacate her spot at the family table. The interloper? Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger. He told the upstart to go to bed. Several decades later, Jagger would witness Wilde’s mettle once again — on the set of their seductive new HBO series, Vinyl. Since 1995, Jagger had mulled a feature film that would delve deep into what he knew best: the gritty reality of the music […]

John Travolta says he’ll watch FOX’s Grease Live “as though it were on Broadway”

Recently, at the Television Critics Association (TCA) winter press tour, John Travolta was on hand to discuss FX’s new series American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson, which debuts Feb. 2 (and in which Travolta gives an amazing performance as attorney Robert Shapiro). Travolta was at the press tour the day after FOX presented a panel for its Grease Live musical event. Of course, Travolta is also legendary for playing Danny in the famed movie adaptation of Grease (pictured), so, naturally, myself and others in a small scrum of reporters at an FX party were wondering if Travolta was going to tune in to […]
