Syfy airing Leonard Nimoy tribute this Sunday morning

In the wake of the passing of actor Leonard Nimoy today, the Syfy channel will be airing a programming tribute to him this Sunday, March 1 — appropriate, given Nimoy’s greatest renown came from his portrayal of Spock on the original Star Trek, its various film incarnations, as well as the 2009 reboot Star Trek, and its 2013 sequel Star Trek: Into Darkness. During the Leonard Nimoy tribute, the network will air an episode of The Twilight Zone (there are also two episodes airing just before the official start of the tribute that star William Shatner; perhaps they are tying him in for the Star Trek connection), as well as […]

The Last Man on Earth: Will Forte survives the apocalypse. Hilarity ensues.

In FOX’s The Last Man on Earth, Will Forte (Saturday Night Live) delivers a virtuoso comedic performance as Phil Miller, the planet’s lone survivor of a deadly pandemic. In 2020, a deadly pandemic wipes out all human and animal beings, save one. Phil Miller travels through all of North […]

Interview: Aaron Stanford of Syfy’s “12 Monkeys”

If you enjoyed Terry Gilliam’s 1995 sci-fi classic 12 Monkeys, you’ll have fun with the new Syfy series adaptation, premiering Jan. 16. Like its source material, the series is about a time traveler, Cole (Aaron Stanford), who journeys from the year 2043 to the present day (with a few other stops here and there) to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will nearly eliminate the human race, leaving the people in Cole’s era desperately trying to survive in a bleak landscape. In our time, Cole befriends Dr. Cassandra Railly (Amanda Schull), whom the future generation has […]

Syfy gets in the holiday spirit with “Christmas Icetastrophe”

If anything, Syfy’s latest original movie, Christmas Icetastrophe, will give local newscasts a new term — “icetastrophe” — to add into their weather reports, along with “snowpocalypse” or “snowmageddon.” Given the film’s title, and tagline — “Don’t Get Iced” — it is surprisingly more serious than your average Syfy flick, and with not as many ice-related puns as I was expecting (I only noticed one, in fact, when a guy yells out “Chill!” just before getting crushed by a huge ice block). The movie takes place on Christmas in a small town in the mountains of Washington state. As the […]

The Vampire Diaries Season 6 Episode 10 Recap: A Very Unmerry Christmas

On the midseason finale of The Vampire Diaries, Kai is home for the holidays and he feels that there’s no better way to spend that time than with family. He starts with his sister Jo, injecting her with something while she’s working on his stab wound victims at the hospital. Because nothing says “Happy Holidays!” like a good stab in the neck. Alaric realizes that Jo has been missing, which could only mean that Kai has come to town. In order to keep Kai from getting what he wants, Alaric and Damon let Elena know their plans on how they’re […]

“Mad Men” in space? Tricia Helfer climbs aboard Syfy’s “Ascension”

Tricia Helfer admits she has somewhat of a soft spot for science fiction. But there’s a good reason. “I started my career with Battlestar Galactica,” the 40-year-old actress explains. “And I got lucky for my first job to be on something that was so character-driven and something that made people think.” It was that combination of strong characters and storylines that drew Helfer to her latest TV project: Ascension (on Syfy Mondays at 9pm ET/PT beginning Dec. 15) a six-part series inspired by Project Orion, a real top-secret space mission authorized by U.S. President John F. Kennedy. Ascension is a […]

The Vampire Diaries Season 6 Episode 9 Recap: Forever Alone

This week’s episode of The Vampire Diaries starts off with Alaric doing the task that Damon compelled him to do — get Jo to tell him where the ascendant is. He wines and dines Jo with a candlelit date night and sure enough, he’s able to deliver the ascendant to Damon. Stefan warns Damon about the consequences he’ll face if Alaric finds out what Damon did but Damon’s sure that won’t happen. I wouldn’t be betting on anything with the way your life has gone so far, Damon. Elena tells Jeremy about Bonnie still being alive in the prison but he’s […]

The Vampire Diaries Season 6 Episode 8 Recap: Friendsgiving

On this week’s The Vampire Diaries, we start by going back into time to the specific date of May 9, 1994. This is the night that Kai went on a killing spree involving four members of his family. In the short flashback, we see Kai trying to kill a young Jo — so it looks like I was right on the two being brother and sister. In fact, they’re twins — and not the only set of twins in the family. As Kai is running after Jo, whom he just stabbed, she is trying to hide the other twins in […]

The Vampire Diaries Season 6 Episode 7 Recap: Aching For Your Love

This week on The Vampire Diaries, we start where we left off in last week’s episode with Damon  in Elena’s room, where she tells him that she still can’t remember anything good about him or the memories they shared. She thought that once she saw Damon face-to-face, the memories would come back, but nothing is working. She feels bad and apologizes to Damon, but he can’t stand to look at her with her inability to share his strong emotions. I guess you can’t blame Elena for trying because she could’ve blown Damon off, but you can tell that she can’t […]

The Vampire Diaries Season 6 Episode 6 recap: Crashing on Memory Lane

On this week’s episode of The Vampire Diaries, Damon is finally back. He clues Stefan in on the twilight zone he was living in and says he can’t seem to stop thinking about Elena. Elena, on the other hand, doesn’t want anything to do with Damon. When Caroline lets her know that he’s back, Elena rearranges her plans so she can completely avoid Damon. Stefan finally tells his big brother about Alaric helping Elena to forget about Damon. Of course Damon has no idea why anyone would want to forget about him and is beyond upset at Alaric for allowing […]
