FOX’s executive session this morning drove home that the network is in on event series based on successful former series on the network. Coming up soon is the 6-part revisiting of The X-Files, and it was announced that there is also a Prison Break event series in the works. Dana Walden and Gary Newman, chairmen and CEOs of Fox Television Group, also announced that FOX has greenlit a pilot for a new series set in the world of 24. FOX made several programming announcements Friday at the 2016 TCA Winter Press Tour: FOX has ordered the pilot for 24: Legacy, featuring a new cast of characters (no Jack Bauer, sorry) but retaining the style and format with each episode representing one hour of a day. The days of NBC executives having to answer questions about its association with Bill Cosby are over. The days of NBC having to respond to inquiries about its relationship with Donald Trump have arrived. NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt, President Jennifer Salke and alternative and late-night programming president Paul Telegdy defended the network dropping Trump from The Apprentice and severing ties with Trump’s pageant specials and then signing Trump to host Saturday Night Live in November. Showtime made several announcements regarding its new and returning series at the 2016 TCA Winter Press Tour: House of Lies Season 5 premieres April 10.
