One Tree Hill: The Slippery Slope Continues 11

Posted by: haro1d Well, the gang was nearly all there last night, and while there was a bit of typical Tree Hill drama, for the most part, it was a “filler” episode. At its center were the bachelor/bachelorette parties for Lucas and Lindsey, sneakily planned to be at the same time and location so that Nathan and Haley would have to see and talk to each other. (Sounds like a great plan for a party, no?) In business news, Peyton, via her recording label, disbursed her first dividends to investor Brooke — in cash. Rachel, currently attempting to detoxify on […]

American Idol Debuts The New Set Live!

It’s new set night for our Top 12. We’ve gone Imperial Senate on Star Wars with the stage and the opening graphics. This means I have to work Star Wars references throughout this recap. There’s an exciting new ‘mosh pit’ in front of the judges. I bet they love that. The thing I like about this particular night is that it’s the first time these kids are actually performing live. We’ll see who chokes under the pressure. The theme tonight is the Lennon/McCartney catalog. Ryan in his subtle faux-hawk is singing their praises. Ryan fails to mention just how much […]

Celebrities Make Their Way To The Ring

Oh sure, WrestleMania is the biggest Big Dance for World Wrestling Entertainment’s top talent. But I demand more than just muscle for my ‘Mania money — I want some serious star wattage, too. Or some amusing sorta-star wattage, anyway. Throughout its nearly 25 years, celebrity attendance at the legendary event has pinned down everything from campy comedy, to tux-and-gown glamour, to what-the-heck hodgepodge with equal vigor. Among the more memorable: WrestleMania (1985) — It Floated Like A Butterfly. Twinkled Like A Sequin. But Mostly Just Wanted to Have Fun. What better way to launch your tough-guy, manly-man pro wrestling extravaganza […]

Getting Lost: “Ji Yeon” Preview

In our last preview, we bemoaned the fact that we had been getting more questions than answers from Lost lately. That didn’t exactly change with last week’s episode, “The Other Woman.” We did knock four questions off our list while only adding two going, but that was the result of us being very judicious about what we added. Or us just being lazy. Whatever. We did get one bombshell — that we all sort of suspecting was coming anyway — when Charles Widmore’s involvement with the freighter team was revealed. We’re hoping for a few more developments this week, but […]

“The Wire”: -30-

Posted by SH For those who don’t know, the title comes from a old journalism tradition of ending stories that reporters hand into their editors with a “-30-“. There are a lot of explanations out there, but no one really knows where it came from. That makes it a perfect note on which to end “The Wire,” which continually questioned why things are the way they are. With countless characters and even more storylines left unresolved, the final hour and a half had a lot to get done. What will happen to McNulty and Freamon now that the serial killer […]

Tracey Ullman Turns Her Attention To Her Newly Adoptive Homeland

She’s been many different people over the years, but she’s always been inimitably Ullman. Tracey Ullman, onetime star of Tracey Takes On … and her other self-titled show that launched The Simpsons, returns to TV this month with her new series, Tracey Ullman’s State of the Union. Unlike her previous excursions into sketch comedy, this venture features Ullman in a string of short, expertly segued vignettes that bring the viewer on a journey across this fair land. “I’ve done it in, kind of, YouTube segments, because I think people’s focus is going,” she explains. “They can only do, like, 30-second […]

“The Tudors” Returns For Another Steamy Season

The Tudors‘ new season, premiering March 30 on Showtime, covers Anne’s thousand-day reign as queen. Even casual fans of history know the season will not end well. Henry’s third wife, Jane Seymour (played by Icelandic actress Anita Briem) is already at court and has caught the king’s eye. We interviewed Michael Hirst, the producer, creator and director of this sultry series about the new season and where it will be taking us. Here are his comments on life at court now that Anne is queen. How much will the clash of ideology between Pius III and Henry play into the […]

Getting Lost: “The Other Woman” Review

Posted by Mike and johnnysweeptheleg Ben’s in love … with the other woman. (No, that’s not the last reference we’ll make to our second favorite Ray Parker Jr. song.) But does the title of last night’s episode really refer to Juliet? Sure, she’s the other woman to that Other woman Harper. But isn’t Ben really obsessed with another other woman — Annie? If you believe Harper, he is. And why shouldn’t we believe someone whose appearance is ushered in by creepy whispers? (We realize it could be Ben’s mom whom Juliet resembles, but that would just be too creepy so […]

Survivor: Fans vs. Favorites, Week 5: Isn’t It Ironic? Don’t You Think?

Somewhere at camp, Ozzy hides the immunity idol he’d found at Exile Island. I suppose that’s an OK idea — this way, folks can’t find it in his bag. But hang on — this is the episode where the tribes get switched up, right? What if he switches tribes and ends up going to the other camp, and then he won’t have access to the idol? Or what if he forgets where he put it? I mean, I sometimes can’t recall putting bread in the toaster and then I’m pleasantly surprised when toast pops up. And that’s just a minute […]
