There Is No More Refuge From Ryan Seacrest

More disconcerting news from FOX Sports today: Ryan Seacrest, host of FOX’s AMERICAN IDOL, the No. 1 television series in the nation, is set to join the cast of FOX NFL SUNDAY, America’s No. 1 NFL pregame show, for the biggest day on the sports calendar: Super Bowl Sunday. The announcement was made last evening by David Hill, Chairman, FOX Sports Television Group. The wildly popular television and radio host has agreed to serve as “entertainment host” for FOX SUPER BOWL SUNDAY, the Super Bowl XLII pregame show. The plan is to utilize Seacrest’s expertise to wrap the entertainment portions […]

Furry Meerkats Continue Their Fight For Survival

Ready for the return of a drama about certain families that involves adultery, treachery, murders of family members by rival gangs, love affairs, plots to create power shifts, turf wars and more? No, The Sopranos hasn’t come back. These real-life “mobs” are the heroes, heroines, villains and those of murky intent found in Animal Planet‘s cult hit Meerkat Manor, debuting its third season Aug. 10. Already a part of pop culture, with references to the ‘kats made on shows such as Rescue Me, Jeopardy!, Brothers & Sisters and The Class, the series offers all the combined cuteness and hard-edged reality […]

FOX Knows You’ve Been Clamoring For More Barry Switzer

FOX Sports today released its NFL on FOX broadcasting teams, as well as some changes to its FOX NFL Sunday studio show. Giving up the traveling studio show that had Joe Buck working double duty as studio host and play-by-play man, FOX NFL Sunday returns to the FOX Network Center in Los Angeles. Curt Menefee is the new full-time host, and he’s joined again by Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long and Jimmy Johnson, with funny guy Frank Caliendo and weather chick Jillian Barberie adding their segments. Perhaps realizing the importance of having an actual “information guy” there to give the show […]

“The Kill Point” Countdown Episode 4 Recap

Episode 4 opens with our favorite crazy SWAT sniper waxing philosophical about bullets and sniping. You just know this guy is going to do something big soon. Back in the bank, Rocko has to pee, and Rabbit is just a little too interested in watching. Rabbit forces Rocko to take off his pants and lie face-down on the floor, then lectures Rocko on the meaning of fear. Rabbit sticks his shotgun in Rocko’s butt. Oh, so that’s fear. Cali’s wife calls him and tells him she has a surprise for him. She also says he looks like “a cool asshole” […]

Deion Sanders, Oxygen To Unleash Pestilence Upon Us

Like most sports fans, my Deion Sanders tolerance threshold was crossed sometime around 1995. Following his long, long overdue retirement from football, he’s continued to annoy me as an NFL TV studio analyst. But I never really had the urge to body slam or electrocute Deion … until he said this recently: I believe [Michael] Vick had a passion for dogfighting. I know many athletes who share his passion. The allure is the intensity and the challenge of a dog fighting to the death. It’s like ultimate fighting, but the dog doesn’t tap out when he knows he can’t win. […]

No “Sunset” For “Tan”

* The hit — and hysterical — E! reality series Sunset Tan returns with oh-so-superficial new episodes on August 19 at 10:30pm ET/PT, right after the equally fluffy Girls Next Door. In these six episodes, tanning salon masterminds Jeff Bozz and Devin Haman meet with George Maloof (frankly, all of these names sound phony) to begin work on a new salon at the Palms Hotel in Las Vegas. Of course, the Olly Girls — the only women who could possibly make the Girls Next Door look like intellectuals by comparison — are back, and are ridiculously asked to start taking […]

“The Kill Point” Countdown: Episode 3 Recap

Episode 3 of The Kill Point starts off with everyone in the bank enjoying cake and having a good time. It’s a happy little hostage situation. Ashley and her friends are trying on other people’s jewelry. Mr. Rabbit is still digging through the wall for some reason. Mr. Mouse is catching up a little sleep and having pleasant dreams until his rifle goes off. And he shoots Cass in the face. Yeah, I suppose Cass was an “acceptable casualty” for the story. Mr. Wolf calls for EMTs and they take Cass out of there. That’s one way to get out […]

Eric Johnson of SCI FI’s “Flash Gordon” Series

Eric Johnson isn’t what you’d call a slacker. As we talk, it’s only a little before 7am his time, and he already sounds upbeat, focused and ready to attack the day — which is fitting for a guy who’s taken on the title role in SCI FI‘s new Flash Gordon series (premiering Aug. 10). And even though he’s already many weeks into production, he maintains that for him, this new adventure just gets more and more exciting. “I was a little worried that after we got into the realities of making this show, that the enthusiasm would wane,” he says. […]

“The Kill Point” Countdown: Episode 2 Recap

Episode 2 of The Kill Point starts off with the morning after, 18 hours since Mr. Wolf (John Leguizamo) and his crew busted into the Three Rivers Trust bank. The FBI has taken control of the hostage negotiations, relegating Cali (Donnie Wahlberg) to a consulting role — basically a nice way of telling him to get lost. The new negotiator, Agent Ash, is an arrogant hard-ass who you know is just going to screw this up. At least Cali’s not giving up. He wants to know why Wolf released Mr. Sabian. Things aren’t going so well inside the bank either. […]
