20th Century Fox Television announced today that the upcoming FOX event series 24 Live Another Day — the follow-up to the hit action series that is coming in Summer Spring 2014 — will be filming in London, making it the first 24 production to film abroad since the 2008 telefilm 24: Redemption. “24 has always had such a global sensibility,” said star Kiefer Sutherland, who is reprising his role as Jack Bauer and who also serves as an executive producer on the event series. “But to be able to tell this intense 24-style story with the beauty of Europe’s history and architecture as the backdrop […]

The Weather Channel announces winter storm names 2013-14

Last year, The Weather Channel drew interest when it decided to begin naming winter storms, much as tropical storms and hurricanes are. So 2012-13 saw the likes of Winter Storm Orko and, notably, Nemo, talked about in the headlines and through social media. As the first national organization to name winter storms, The Weather Channel says it did so to make communications and information sharing easier, and to better alert residents to forecasts for storms that could significantly affect them. Given the success of the names helping people be aware of and discuss the storms last year, The Weather Channel […]

When it comes to natural history programming, cheetahs are the new stars for Fall 2013. In November, Nat Geo Wild will present a special pitting two NFL players in a race against the fastest land animal. And tonight, Discovery Channel debuts the even more fascinating, and quite touching, two-hour special Man Cheetah Wild. Man Cheetah Wild follows Kim Wolhuter, a filmmaker and one-time game ranger with a unique ability to bond with the animals of his native Zimbabwe. Wolhuter’s approach has allowed him incredible access into the secretive world of cheetahs. In particular, one cheetah family accepted him as part […]

“The Originals” takes “Vampire Diaries” to New Orleans

It’s about time all these ancient vampires started acting their age. The CW’s latest fang fest takes characters introduced in the decidedly youth-friendly Vampire Diaries universe and lets them take a more “bacchanalian” approach to immortality, as executive producer Julie Plec puts it. “We graduated high school [with The Vampire Diaries] and went to college and are getting our little master’s degree in The Originals,” she says. Klaus (Joseph Morgan), Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Rebekah (Claire Holt) make the journey from Mystic Falls to New Orleans, where vampires, werewolves and witches are locked in a deadly struggle for control. Marcel […]

Duck Dynasty Season 4 recap: “Scoot Along Si”

Duck Dynasty Season 4 returned last night after what seemed like an interminable two-week hiatus. But in that time there was plenty of news about the Robertsons, like a sneak peek of their Christmas album Duck the Halls, and word that there were plenty more Duck Dynasty-related books on the way. Back to the here and now, though, “Scoot Along Si” starts with Willie having a long, excruciating phone conversation with Jep, with Willie’s contributions mainly consisting of “Yep” and “Mm hm.” He’s sitting in his truck waiting to go somewhere when all of a sudden his huge Duck Commander […]

Sons of Anarchy Season 6 recap: “Wolfsangel”

I’m of two minds about “Wolfsangel.” On the one hand, it’s amazing that a show can still genuinely shock me six seasons in. On the other, Sons of Anarchy Season 6 is dancing on that razor-thin line separating shocking twists from just jerking you around. The next few episodes will tell the tale. Instead of taking you through every event in detail, then giving you the big news, I need to just get this out there right now. Lee Toric (Donal Logue) is dead. The former U.S. Marshal out for vengeance against SAMCRO for the brutal murder of his sister, […]
