Halfway through Season 2 of HBO’s The Newsroom, we’ve been treated to glimpses of something resembling a season-long arc pegged to the botched investigation into a potential war crime stemming from American troops’ use of sarin gas in the Afghanistan theater. What happened to SPEED channel? On Aug. 17, SPEED becomes FOX Sports 1 on all major pay-TV providers. Many of the auto racing events previously airing on SPEED will now air on FS1. On Saturday, Aug. 17, at 8am ET, SPEED will become FOX Sports 1, a new national sports network featuring live college football, auto racing, UFC, soccer, news shows and more. For what it’s calling “Hub Network’s First Annual Halloween Bash” (let’s just all agree to overlook that something can’t really be “first” and “annual”), Hub Network has conjured up a scary-big celeb to take part: domestic/lifestyle guru Martha Stewart. Stewart will decide whether she wants to say “it’s a good thing” to 50 finalists (one from each state) competing in a nationwide Halloween costume contest, which will take submissions starting today through Sunday, Sept. 29. Alfred Hitchcock famously adapted Ethel Lina White’s 1936 novel The Wheel Spins into the 1938 film The Lady Vanishes, and that has remained the most familiar adaptation (despite a 1979 remake) for decades. Last April, the Season 3 finale of A&E’s massive hit Duck Dynasty nabbed what was then seen as a whopping 9.6 million viewers.
