Bob Odenkirk on ‘Breaking Bad’ and a possible Saul Goodman spin-off

Yes, Bob Odenkirk knows you’ve heard the buzz about Better Call Saul, the rumored Breaking Bad spinoff featuring his fan-favorite character, morally flexible, courtroom-averse lawyer Saul Goodman. But if you think those rumors gave Odenkirk an ounce of security that Saul survives the wrath of Walter White in Bad’s Sept. 29 series finale, you’d be, well, dead wrong. “Knowing [showrunner] Vince [Gilligan] and how seriously he takes the show, he will kill Saul if that is what should happen — so you should know that!” says Odenkirk. “He would not hesitate to do that because there is a gossipy story […]

MythBusters Breaking Bad special airs Monday on Discovery

My fellow Breaking Bad fans, have you ever wondered if some of the stuff that teacher-turned-meth-kingpin Walter White and his wayward acolyte Jesse Pinkman get into courtesy of Walt’s weird science could actually happen? Well, the MythBusters team is on the case. But before you get your undies in a bundle fretting about what Bad‘s creator Vince Gilligan might think of the potential whistleblowing, you can relax. It was his idea in the first place. This Monday, Gilligan and Jesse Pinkman himself, Aaron Paul, appear on a special Breaking Bad episode of MythBusters, seeking to dispel viewers’ doubts about two […]

“American Horror Story: Coven” teaser trailer gets witchy … or does it?

Another fall TV season, another batch of creepy abstract teasers for American Horror Story. This initial 17-second clip for American Horror Story: Coven reveals nothing at all about the storyline, which we know is going to be centered around witches in New Orleans. The opening line of “House of the Rising Sun” — the one about there being a house in New Orleans — is the only reference to the setting. Otherwise all we see is a white room where a small white cat walks toward the camera before we pan to a much more arresting visual, seven women — […]

Dance Moms Season 3 Episode 26 recap: Baby Got Back. So Did Kelly.

I’m back, Dance Moms nation — and mildly confused about what went down last week, since I didn’t have a chance to watch the episode. Here’s what I’m taking away from the intro: Kelly’s still gone, Leslie and Pay-Pay are filling in and annoying everyone, and the group dance was called Open Waters and beat the Candy Apples group dance so soundly that Anthony and Cathy had to stand with their backs against the wall and think about what they did. Also, Black Patsy has a man-voiced minion and hey, there’s Brigette Triana! How’d I do? Good enough. Let’s move […]

Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition Season 2 premieres Sept. 3

Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition Season 2 will premiere Tues., Sept. 3, at 9pm ET/PT on Lifetime. The series — whose star, notorious Dance Moms dance instructor Abby Lee Miller, has said is the show she wanted to make in the first place — will feature 11 more talented kids vying for a $100,000 cash prize and a scholarship to the Young Dancers Program at New York’s Joffrey Ballet School. Last year’s winner Brianna Haire attended the Joffrey program this summer, assuaging fans’ fears that she would suffer the same fate as Dance Moms’ beleaguered Chloe, who won a similar scholarship […]

VOD Spotlight: “The Place Beyond the Pines”

You wouldn’t be entirely off base if you thought Ryan Gosling was fated to play the role of Luke in director Derek Cianfrance’s The Place Beyond the Pines. The two had worked together on 2010’s Blue Valentine with Gosling starring alongside Michelle Williams in the film about the evolution of a marriage. In fact, it was during the preparation for Blue Valentine that Gosling and Cianfrance discovered a common idea they had each had individually. Cianfrance says he asked Gosling what was something he had always wanted to do in his life, but hadn’t. “It came up that there was […]

VOD Spotlight: Building a Bubbleship for “Oblivion”

In 2005, five years before Joseph Kosinski directed his first feature, TRON: Legacy, he wrote a 12-page story titled Oblivion. In his sci-fi adventure set in 2077 — six decades after an alien invasion irradiates Earth — readers follow the missions of Jack, a repairman on a nearly destroyed planet who is uncertain of his place in the universe. The Bubbleship is Jack’s (Tom Cruise) primary form of transportation as he travels to and from Earth’s surface. Kosinski was thrilled to see the vehicle he imagined several years ago — a hybrid of a jet fighter and a Bell 47 […]

First night of Discovery’s Shark Week 2013 sets viewership records with “Megalodon” special

Although some fans on Twitter were bummed that Shark Week 2013 kicked off with a Mermaids-style “mockumentary” called Megalodon: The Monster Shark Lives, its premise nonetheless was enough to get them and many others tuned in. Discovery Channel reports today that Shark Week 2013 broke all viewership records in the programming event’s 26-year history last night, Aug. 4. Megalodon: The Monster Shark Lives was, according to Discovery, the highest-rated and most-watched Shark Week program to date, earning a 2.60 P25-54 and 4.8 million total viewers in P2+ delivery. Over this same period in 2012, Megalodon was up 141% in the […]

After 16 years on ABC’s daytime talk show The View, original cohost Joy Behar is leaving, with her last show this Friday, Aug. 9.
