Sharknado merchandise on the way

Probably not too surprisingly, given how much of a pop-culture phenomenon the film has become, Syfy and production company The Asylum announced yesterday that the first Sharknado merchandise program is in development with Earthbound LLC, a direct-to-retail and brand licensing agency. Sharknado will be translated into a wide range of potential merchandise, from fashion tees, bags, posters, accessories and costumes to gaming, and other areas. According to a Syfy release, the first wave of Sharknado T-shirts will hit retail stores nationally within the coming weeks. “We’re excited to be working with Earthbound and Syfy, and to seeing Sharknado on every […]

7 Questions With Brian “Q” Quinn of truTV’s “Impractical Jokers”

You get the sense that wherever you might encounter them, talking to one of the four guys who make up truTV’s Impractical Jokers would be a fun time.  And it’s true, the quartet of Joe Gatto, James “Murr” Murray, Sal Vulcano and Brian “Q” Quinn are just as down-to-earth and good-natured as they appear on their prank show, which returns with new episodes tonight at 10pm. But getting to talk to “Q” at Comic-Con in San Diego added a unique flavor. Sitting in a downtown breakfast spot made over to be the epicenter of an Impractical Jokers media blitz, the […]

“Psychic Tia”: A&E’s latest reality series brings a Jersey feel to the spirit world

Tia Belle (a.k.a. Psychic Tia) likes to tell people that her job involves playing “charades with the dead.” But it’s far from just being fun and games for the New Jersey clairvoyant, as she takes her paranormal abilities quite seriously. On Psychic Tia, premiering Aug. 3 at 10pm on A&E, viewers will get to see the former police detective (she left the force after a near-fatal illness made her reprioritize things) in her new line of work, giving readings and channeling the spirits of departed loved ones at her shop, The Craft. They’ll also see parts of her home life, […]

Vince Gilligan On The End Of “Breaking Bad” And New Beginnings

In the fall of 2007, I flew to Albuquerque to spend a glorious day with showrunner Vince Gilligan and the cast of Breaking Bad as they filmed Season 1 and wondered what would happen to their daring little series as the writers strike loomed. Five seasons, six years, seven primetime Emmys and countless other accolades later, Gilligan is on the phone chuckling indulgently as I pose overwrought theories about the fate of Walter White and Co. on the eve of Bad’s last eight episodes. For example: about his long-ago promise to turn his lead from Mr. Chips into Scarface culminating […]

“The White Queen”: Starz’s epic drama could make a star out of Rebecca Ferguson

In The White Queen, young woman is plucked from obscurity and suddenly thrust into the biggest spotlight possible. Now the center of attention for an entire nation, she must navigate her way through an entirely new level of existence, hoping the lofty social structure she finds herself in doesn’t swallow her soul. This describes Elizabeth Woodville, the title character of Starz’s handsome 10-part period drama based on the novel by Philippa Gregory (The Other Boleyn Girl), but it could also on some level describe the actress who plays her, Rebecca Ferguson. The 29-year-old actress has mainly worked in smaller projects and […]

You’re at a magazine rack and can only pick three titles. Which ones do you choose? The Herald Tribune, The New Yorker and probably an Entertainment Weekly. 2. If […]

7 Questions With … Wayne Knight of TV Land’s “The Exes”

Newman, Dennis Nedry, the chicken-suit guy from Toy Story 2, the sweaty cop who saw up Sharon Stone’s skirt in Basic Instinct … Wayne Knight has brought them all to life, carving out a particular niche for himself with characters that are off-putting at best to those onscreen and irresistible to viewers. His latest gig is playing Haskell Lutz on TV Land’s sitcom The Exes, about three divorced men who become roommates as they try to rebuild their lives. The gig reunites him with his 3rd Rock From the Sun costar Kristen Johnston, who plays the trio’s divorce lawyer who […]

TCA: CW wants to expand upon DC universe, may spin off Flash series from “Arrow”

At The CW executive panel this morning, network president Mark Pedowitz addressed the Television Critics Association (TCA) Summer 2013 Press Tour gathering. Among the things he talked about was how the upcoming season of The CW’s hit series Arrow will feature an origin story for Barry Allen — better known to comic book fans as The Flash. If this storyline goes well with viewers, Pedowitz suggested there may be a Flash spinoff series. “We plan to introduce a reoccurring character and an origin story of Dr. Barry Allen, who you now know is The Flash,” said Pedowitz. “… [W]e’re planning […]
