“Glee” star Cory Monteith reportedly found dead in Canada

Cory Monteith, the troubled star of FOX’s hit Glee, was reportedly found dead in a Vancouver hotel room Saturday. Monteith, who played jock singing sensation Finn Hudson since the show debuted in 2009, was 31. No cause of death was revealed, but police ruled out foul play. Monteith had checked into rehab earlier this year for substance abuse and had a history with drugs that stretched back to his teens.

Lindsay Lohan: Oprah scores first post-rehab interview, 2014 reality show

Score another one for Oprah Winfrey. Having landed the first post-scandal chats with disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong, freewheeling pop starlet Rihanna and the family of doomed songbird Whitney Houston, the talk-show icon will interview Lindsay Lohan in August following the completion of Lohan’s court-ordered, 90-day stay at the Betty Ford Center, according to Entertainment Weekly. Winfrey’s OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network has also signed Lohan to star in an eight-part docuseries chronicling her life post-rehab and her efforts to reclaim her career. The show is scheduled to air sometime in 2014. Lindsay has shunned previous reality offers, including taking part in her […]

Comedy Bang Bang returns for Season 2 of inspired lunacy on IFC

Comedy Bang! Bang! Fridays beginning July 12 IFC, 10pm ET/PT Maybe it was the Ghoulies joke. I’ll admit to having largely missed out on the first season of Comedy Bang! Bang!, IFC’s free-form send-up of the talk-show genre. Then when I put in the screeners for two episodes of Season 2, with guest stars Andy Samberg and Aziz Ansari, I sat there for a while not too impressed, finding the endless stream of improvised gags feeling at times like a laborious outtake reel — you know, like those ones for Judd Apatow or Will Ferrell movies where you’re shocked at […]

What’s in store for Suits Season 3 premiere? Gabriel Macht interview

Suits Season 3 premiere: Tuesday, July 16 at 10pm ET/PT USA Network’s top rated drama Suits returns for a third season and it looks like the bromance between Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) and Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams) is officially over. We caught up with Macht to get his insights on his character, the new season and that infamous can opener. When we last left the boys, Jessica (Gina Torres) told Harvey to learn his lesson and play by the god damn rules, so how’s that going for Harvey? Gabriel Macht: Oh come on. He doesn’t live by those rules. […]

HBO’s “The Newsroom” Season 2 preview

Creator Aaron Sorkin’s fast-paced drama The Newsroom returns for Season 2, where the office faces a wrongful termination lawsuit, and tackles real-world subjects like the Occupy Wall Street movement and the 2012 presidential election. Jeff Daniels, Emily Mortimer and Olivia Munn return. Premieres on HBO Sunday, July 14, at 10pm ET. While this not quantitatively verifiable, Aaron Sorkin’s HBO comedy/drama The Newsroom made a certain impact on the long painful decay of television journalism when it aired last summer. Which is to say, it may have delayed it marginally. No small feat, to be sure, but amid and in the […]

Paula Deen comic book still in the works

Despite her recent controversy, media firestorm and loss of several sponsors — along with being fired from Food Network — due to her inflammatory racial comments, Paula Deen will still be the subject of a Female Force biographical comic book to be available this fall, according to publisher Bluewater Productions. “We do not condone [Paula Deen’s] use of racial insensitivities, and think that intolerance has no place in a just society,” said Bluewater’s president Darren G. Davis, “but despite her recent failings, we also strongly believe she still has a powerful story to tell; one that fits the female empowerment […]

Dance Moms Chatter Part 2 recap: Smart Alec, Dumb Jokes

Sorry for the belated recap, Dance Moms fans. I didn’t tune in last night and it took me a while to fire up the thingie on the Lifetime web site to get the job done today. But I did. Because I promised you I would. JC, Superstar Executive Producer starts out by asking a very L.A.-tan Abby why she went straight to being a choreographer without stopping at dancer first and Abby touts her creds. Then he asks her if she always dreamed of being famous. “I was always a star in my own mind — it just took everybody else […]
