DIY Network’s “Man Caves” teams up with Animal Planet, Maxim

By Stacey Harrison Follow @ChannelGuideSRH As the NFL kicks off this week, many Y-chromosomed viewers will be retreating to their testosterone-centric hideaways to take in the festivities. Keeping this in mind, DIY Network has a special episode of its hit series Man Caves planned that should be a treat for all gridiron lovers. Teaming up with lad mag Maxim, and the hosts of Animal Planet’s Tanked, Man Caves hosts Jason Cameron and Tony “Goose” Siragusa construct a personal hangout for New York Jets linebacker Bart “can’t wait” Scott. They’ll get help from Brett Raymer and Wayde King, who have been […]

Animal Planet’s “Hillbilly Handfishin’” is a noodler’s delight

By Stacey Harrison Follow @ChannelGuideSRH If Skipper Bivins or Trent Jackson ever ask you to go fishing, it’s best to know what you’re getting yourself into. Literally, that would be a river with only your bare hands to help you. Bivins and Jackson are expert noodlers, or hand-fishers, who run a business that takes adventure-seekers — usually city folk and suburbanites — out on the water for a unique wilderness thrill. Animal Planet follows their exploits in Hillbilly Handfishin’, a 12-part series airing Sundays at 10pm. We spoke with the duo to learn a little more about noodling, and why […]

The search for Bigfoot continues

by Karl J. Paloucek Follow @ChannelGuide Animal Planet announced today that its series Finding Bigfoot will be picked up for a second season, coming in early 2012. In addition, a two-hour Finding Bigfoot special, “The Squatchiest Place on Earth,” airing this Halloween, will tide viewers over until the new season begins, taking them to the forests of Northern California, where the presence of “the creature” seems particularly strong. I have to admit that I’m fascinated. Not so much by the whole Sasquatch thing, but at the fact that this is such an interesting case of a show being more “about […]

Osama bin Laden’s DVR foreshadows his death

By Tom Comi After 10 years of searching for al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden by various agencies, many Americans had probably given up hope that he would ever be captured. But a lot can be determined by looking at a person’s TV-viewing habits, and the recently discovered DVR found at bin Laden’s compound in Pakistan suggests he knew the end was near. Channel Guide Magazine was able to obtain the DVR through top-secret sources*, and it turns out that the world’s most wanted man was quite the fan of American television. Here are some of the shows that he had […]

A viewer’s guide to non-wedding programming

For those of you who will for one reason or another be up at 4 am ET tomorrow with no desire whatsoever to watch the Royal wedding, we here at Channel Guide Magazine have you covered. For every network that is covering the over-hyped vows, there are countless others that are offering a potpourri of programming choices. With that in mind, here is what we are officially deeming our “Un-Royal Best Bets,” which is subjective at best when you consider that all of these shows are airing just after midnight on the West Coast and shortly before sunrise on the […]

Super Bowl Sunday shows for the non-football fan

By Jeff Pfeiffer Not into football? That’s okay, we won’t judge you (too much). If that’s the case, then you are probably overwhelmed by the amount of coverage of Super Bowl XLV, and may feel like you won’t get a respite from hearing about the game at all this Sunday. But some networks have thought of you with a variety of programming marathons that may appeal to both the non-football lover, and those football fans who just can’t stomach sitting through six-hour pregame shows. One of the annual favorites among such marathons is Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl, now in its […]

Nice To Eat You

By Jeff Pfeiffer You have to hand it to Animal Planet. They can do “cute and cuddly” better than anyone else, with shows like Puppy Bowl, Growing Up … and Cats 101. But they do realize that the animal kingdom is vast and varied, so they also don’t shy away from the types of creatures that you will never see featured in “365 (fill in the blank) a Year” calendars, like the ones in these current and upcoming series:
