Reality shows need better screening processes

By Tom Comi Follow @ChannelGuide Nobody will ever know if Russell Armstrong would have committed suicide had he not appeared on Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. But there should be a growing concern that the people appearing on such reality shows lack the stability to endure the spotlight they so desperately crave. We won’t manufacture a cause-and-effect relationship between what happens off-air and on-air with these programs; however, something good needs to come out of Armstrong’s suicide, and I’m hoping that involves better screening and more counseling by the producers of these shows.

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills will premiere on Sept. 5

Frances Berwick,  president of Bravo Media, released a statement today confirming the Sept. 5 launch for Season 2 of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. “Given that these episodes were filmed months ago, the producers of the show taped a brief interview this week with several of the cast members to introduce the premiere,” said Berwick. “Re-editing of the episodes is still underway.” Berwick added, “Bravo has partnered with the Entertainment Industries Council, Inc. (EIC) to raise awareness about suicide prevention.  The network will air various PSA’s during The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. We will also provide additional information […]

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills news: Bravo to air special that addresses Russell Armstrong’s death

By Lori Acken Follow @ChannelGuide Oh, those Real Housewives of Beverly Hills “sources.” They’ve become the trusty purveyors of RHoBH news (and thus, juicy upcoming plotlines) without Bravo having to break its grieving silence — or its stride on recreating a season fairly gutted by RHoBHusband Russell Armstrong’s shocking suicide. According to the most reliable sources, the network has gathered Taylor Armstrong’s cast mates Lisa Vanderpump, Camille Grammer, Kim and Kyle Richards, and Adreienne Maloof to film a special that addresses the tragic death, the suffering of their friend (or frenemy) Taylor and other Armstrong family members, and the impact […]

“Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” news: Pandora Vanderpump to marry this weekend

RadarOnline.com is reporting that Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Lisa Vanderpump’s 24-year-old daughter, Pandora, will marry this Saturday — offering a much-needed respite for the grief-stricken cast in the wake of Taylor Armstrong’s husband’s suicide. The report quoted a source who said that Pandora’s wedding to Jason Todd was already booked, but the details have been kept quiet in light of Russell Armstrong’s death earlier this month. The nuptials also offer Bravo producers a happier avenue to pursue as they reshoot and re-edit the show’s second season, postponed indefinitely from its original Sept. 5 premiere.

Tragedy hits “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills”

By Lori Acken Follow @ChannelGuide Russell Armstrong, 47, the estranged husband of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Taylor Armstrong (pictured), reportedly committed suicide Monday night at the home of a close friend. A spokesperson for Bravo issued the following statement: “All of us at Bravo are deeply saddened by this tragic news. Our sympathy and thoughts are with the Armstrong family at this difficult time.” No word from the network yet as to whether this will affect the September 5 Season 2 premiere of the series; a media conference call with Taylor Armstrong’s costars Camille Grammer, Adrienne Maloof and Kyle […]

TCA Summer Press Tour: MSNBC hosts predict the next president

By Ryan Berenz Follow @ChannelGuideRAB Before getting into Tuesday’s NBC Universal TCA panels, just have to mention what an awesome party NBCU threw at The Bazaar at SLS Hotel Beverly Hills last night. After grabbing some seafood hors d’ouvres, I found a table and sat down, and was joined shortly by The Singing Bee judge Ben Folds and his wife. I chatted with him, and talked about the Ben Folds Five show I remembered seeing at Milwaukee’s Summerfest about 12 years ago. Folds mentioned that he loves playing Summerfest. “That’s a pretty drunk crowd there,” he says. The man knows […]

“Home By Novogratz” brings “9 By Design” family to HGTV

Stars of reality series switching shows and networks isn’t uncommon. Paris Hilton might be on E! one year, then Oxygen the next. And who knows when and where an old Real World star might show up? Going from Bravo to HGTV, however, is more of a oddity. But Bob and Cortney Novogratz say the change suits them just fine. The New York-based designers broke into television with last year’s 9 By Design, which showcased the work they do with their celebrated Manhattan design firm, Sixx Design, as well as their home life raising seven children. They’re back this year with […]

Kathy Griffin pulls no punches in Bravo special

By Tom Comi Follow @ChannelGuide There are three different camps when it comes to comedian Kathy Griffin: those who love her; those who despise her; and those who find her funny but don’t want to admit it. It’s probably safe to say that many people fall into the latter group. Griffin is one of those rare humorists who isn’t afraid to speak her mind. And while that can make her extremely controversial, it’s also what sets her apart from many of her comedic counterparts. For those in the first and third groups, you will definitely want to tune in to […]
