Recap: Naked and Afraid “Redemption Road”

A past contestant returns to the show and along with her partner attempts to survive the jungles of Guyana. Amanda Kaye (aka AK) is back! When we last met this butt-kicking mom, she was getting her fanny chewed on by Amazonian mosquitoes in Season 2, Episode 1.  I’ve always hoped that she’d get a second chance. She seemed pretty strong, but the relentless mosquitoes that she and her partner Tyler faced would have made any mere mortal tap out. Now she gets to seek her revenge. AK Age: 32 years old Occupation: Stay-at-home mom Current Residence: Alabama Relationship Status: Married […]

Casting Director Reveals How To Get On Naked And Afraid

Last year, I interviewed Kristi Russell, president of Metal Flowers Media. She revealed a lot about the Naked and Afraid casting process. Metal Flowers casts participants for a variety of reality series, but its largest, and most difficult client is Naked and Afraid. Kristi and her team scour the country for elite survivalists willing to participate in one of reality television’s most grueling experiences. And since I posted Kristi’s first interview, I’ve been wanting to do a follow-up interview to learn about: 1) Naked and Afraid XL; 2) Naked and Afraid, Show Us Your Stuff; 3) What’s coming up in Season 5 […]

Recap Naked and Afraid: Garden of Evil

They’re not even inserted and our male participant already sees stormy weather heading his way… foreshadowing is never good. Guess what? We’re heading to a place that is so terrible that nothing can live there! Have fun! From the travel brochure that was so lovingly read to us, we learn that Cayo Venado, Mexico is home to mangrove swamps, which are the perfect home for Jaguars and Panthers. And we’re not talking about Florida sports teams. Since the producers of Naked and Afraid: Garden of Evil are masters of planning, this trip coincides with the area’s rainy season, with “storms of biblical […]

Naked and Afraid XL Preview Clips

During last night’s double-episode of Naked and Afraid, Discovery premiered a preview of Naked and Afraid XL, the network’s exciting summer series where 12 former Naked and Afraid contestants accept a new, and more unfathomably-difficult challenge. Some of N&A’s most memorable contestants will work together as a group as they survive in the Colombian jungle for 40 days. This is insanity. 40 Days?!? Many of the returnees successfully completed the 21 day-survival challenge (some of them alone!) so for them, what are a few more weeks? And for those participants who failed in their first attempt, it’s time for redemption! Related: […]

Recap: Naked and Afraid Bares All: Survival in Close Quarters

I am still buzzing about the news that the next season of Naked and Afraid will feature some of our favorite past participants! Naked and Afraid XL will have 12 survivalists living together in Colombia for 40 days and I can’t wait! I hope that Naked and Afraid Bares All: Survival in Close Quarters is a little less lazy than the “Uncensored” clip show from a few weeks ago, so hopefully this episode of Bares All will be more than a re-airing of past episodes. Within a few minutes, it’s clear that this will be better than the “Uncensored” episodes which are the […]

My Brother’s Keeper initiative subject of new Discovery/OWN special

President Barack Obama will appear in a new Discovery Channel/OWN special that looks at the My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) initiative, the principles of which include ensuring all youth complete their post-secondary education and training and are employed once they’re out of school. Titled Rise: The Promise of My Brother’s Keeper, and appropriately airing on Father’s Day, June 21, the program explores the lives and families of boys and young men of color from four programs around the U.S. that are living the principles of the MBK initiative. The film, directed by Dawn Porter (Gideon’s Army), also addresses President Obama’s challenge to cities […]
