Where to watch the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony

By Ryan Berenz Guard Russ Grimm, linebacker Rickey Jackson, cornerback Dick LeBeau, running back Floyd Little, defensive tackle John Randle, wide receiver Jerry Rice, and running back Emmitt Smith will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, in this ceremony. The seven-man class of 2010 was elected by the Pro Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee from a list of 17 finalists. Two of the enshrinees, Smith and Rice, were virtual shoo-ins to enter the Hall in their first year of eligibility. Rice is the NFL’s career receiving and touchdowns leader, having played 20 seasons, […]

Where to watch X Games 16

The X Games are back in Los Angeles July 29-Aug. 1 for the 16th edition, and ESPN has plenty of ways to keep the kids plugged in to all things X. There’s even something called “Hookit,” which up until now I thought was some kind of fancy tobacco pipe. Since I’m about 15 years older than the oldest X Games viewer, I’m not going to attempt to be “rad.” I’ll just let this pair of press releases from ESPN explain it: ESPN’s X Games Takes Over Downtown Los Angeles ESPN – together with Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) and the Los […]

Where to watch the 2010 British Open golf tournament

By Ryan Berenz Golf’s third major tournament of the year, the British Open, returns to the Old Course at St. Andrews in Scotland. St. Andrews, perhaps the most sacred ground in all of golf, first hosted the Open in 1873, and will host the tournament for the 28th time. Golf’s best, including Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk, Ernie Els, Lee Westwood, Steve Stricker and 2009 Open champion Stewart Cink compete for the famed Claret Jug. Last year’s Open provided plenty of drama as five-time Open champ Tom Watson, at age 59, made an incredible run but was denied when […]

Where to watch the 2010 MLB Home Run Derby

ESPN will air the 2010 State Farm Home Run Derby, annually one of the summer’s most popular TV sports events, on Monday, July 12, at 8pm ET. This year’s derby field is a little strange — there are no past winners participating, and no one from last year’s derby is in it this year (Prince Fielder, pictured, was last year’s winner). So here is the lineup of guys taking batting practice for three long, exhausting hours tonight: Corey Hart, Brewers Chris Young, Diamondbacks Nick Swisher, Yankees Hanley Ramirez, Marlins Vernon Wells, Blue Jays Miguel Cabrera, Tigers Matt Holliday, Cardinals David […]

Where to watch the Netherlands vs. Spain World Cup final match

The World Cup is down to its final match, and I am a little sad to see the tournament coming to an end. This is the most fun I’ve ever had watching soccer (which doesn’t say much, because I almost never watch it otherwise), and I want to especially thank Univision for streaming all the games for free (without the pesky ESPN3.com requirements). The Univision announcers have an infectious enthusiasm for the game, and even though I only understand about every fifth word they say, “Gooooooolaaaaaaaaaasssssooooooo!” needs no translation. ABC will air the final match between the Netherlands and Spain […]

LeBron James’ “The Decision” to air on ESPN

By Ryan Berenz I feel kind of dirty posting this, considering the absurdity of it all, but I’m sure this program will get a ton of viewers. Reports are that LeBron is favoring joining Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami, so maybe someone from a competing network will confirm it and report it before ESPN does and we can all skip this circus. (Yeah, I know about the proceeds going to charity thing. Doesn’t make it any less silly.) Here is the release from ESPN: “The Decision” to be Presented Live on ESPN Thursday at 9 p.m. ET LeBron […]

ESPN Films documentary looks at World Cup goal scorers

By Ryan Berenz So, finally there’s something actually worth watching on ABC’s ESPN Sports Saturday. The ESPN Films documentary I Scored a Goal premieres on ABC Saturday, July 3 at 5pm ET, following the Paraguay vs. Spain quarterfinal match. Here are the details from ESPN: The ESPN Films documentary I Scored a Goal will premiere Saturday, July 3, at 5 p.m. ET on ABC during the ESPN Sports Saturday programming block. World Cup quarterfinals match schedule

The World Cup has come down to the final eight teams, as quarterfinal matchups begin Friday, July 2, on ESPN. It’s unfortunate that Netherlands vs. Brazil has to take place in the quarterfinals — both of these teams are capable of winning it all, but one of them will be eliminated Friday. Same story with Argentina vs. Germany. Those matches should be awesome. Uruguay vs. Ghana — though neither is really an elite soccer powerhouse — should be a decent match, though the winner is shaping up to be a sacrificial lamb for the winner of Netherlands-Brazil. And we figure […]
